Hope all you racers enjoyed a productive off-season in 2011-2012 and are ready to ramp up for a season of high quality racing in the Mountain States Cup. As many of you have expressed in surveys last season, we focused 2012 on quality venues over a bunch of races. We were told fewer events and let’s try and change things up a bit. So this year we have selected our best ski area partners and the venues that offer the best racing.
Here is the low-down for what’s to come in 2012….
MSC #1, Riverside Rampage (SALIDA) is stop number one of the MSC and will prove to have some of the most technical singletrack racing of the season. You can sign up for either just the cross country race on Sunday or the stage race, which will enter you in all three events, which is offered at a special price. The race courses are dry and ready to ride so if you are interested pre riding your race courses, head on down to the Banana Belt of Colorado and check out the courses. Maps are available here.
MSC #2, Chile Challenge (ANGEL FIRE) will have new courses for all the disciplines offered- cross country, downhill, dual slalom and super d. Yes, a new XC for all you endurance folks. The course has some great steep climbing, good technical sections and the Pros and CAT 1′s will be treated to an additional loop at the top of the mountain. The DH course is also new and the bike park manager assures us it will have challenging fun, fast and technical riding for all abilities. Angel Fire will be our only dual slalom stop on the series this year and the course was built for Collegiate National Championships last October, and received rave reviews by the participants. Super d will also feature new riding for the 2012 season and should prove to be both fun and fast!
MSC #3, Wildflower Rush (CRESTED BUTTE) features one of the true test of racing for the endurance crowd. The 40 mile cross country race for Pros and CAT 1′s has proven to be one of the most challenging and rewarding courses that we have ever had the opportunity to race in the MSC series. Modifications to the downhill course will be added again this season as the mountain monkeys are always adding new features to add to the excitement of downhill racing. New this season we will be adding a second super d. The Saturday afternoon/evening super d will be more gravity-oriented, with little-to-no climbing and the Sunday super d will have a little more focus on climbing.
MSC #4, Blast The Mass Gravity (SNOWMASS VILLAGE) is back as a gravity only venue this season with one of the best downhill courses that the MSC has ever had in its line-up. Snowmass will also offer up a second super d. Both of these courses are very gravity oriented and have some super fast wide open sections to test all the skills necessary to be a true super d and enduro champion!
MSC #5, Full Tilt in Telluride (TELLURIDE) has been dubbed the best cross country course of the MSC the past two years running. We will be adding a second super d here, so plan on a similar format to Wildflower Rush with two really fun fast flowing courses. The downhill course will remain mostly the same, with a few more tweaks and modifications as in 2011. MSC #5, Full Tilt in Telluride is slated for the Colorado State Championships in cross country, downhill and super d (one Saturday) so get this one on your calendar to peak for!
