Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 2, 2012) -The nation’s premiere professional cross country mountain bike series, the USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country (ProXCT) will kick-off on March 3 with the Subaru of Georgetown Mellow Johnny’s Classic in Johnson City, Texas. The Mellow Johnny’s Classic is the first of five UCI sanctioned races making up the 2012 Pro XCT; designed to offer top off road racers a consistent competitive stage and is the only one of its kind in America made up exclusively of events offering UCI points.

Max Plaxton (CAN/Specialized USA Factory Racing) and Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt./Specialized) will be looking to defend their 2011 Pro XCT overall titles as a stacked field of more than 150 of the continent’s top male and female pro riders will be showcased in Saturday’s Pro XCT events.

The men’s pro race is set to go off at 2:30 p.m. with nearly every top American rider battling it out in the 22-mile event. The women’s race will offer similar star-power and will begin at noon.

The Pro XCT also features number plates for the country’s top 10 riders as well as comprehensive individual and team series rankings. The Fontana kick-off of the Pro XCT will also mark the beginning of the new USA Cycling mountain bike domestic pro team program.

The US Cup Triple Crown – Bonelli Park, the second stop on the 2012 Pro XCT, will go off the following weekend in San Dimas, Calif.
