Sea Otter FMB Dirt Jump Comp Qualifying

A bronze-level FMB dirt jump was held at the 2012 Sea Otter Classic. Since it was at Sea Otter, the turnout and competition was excellent. Camera and Tyler McCaul, Paul Basagoitia, Mike Montgomery, Aaron Chase, Andrew Taylor, Kelly McGarry and a whole bunch of other top-level chuckers were there to show off their big air skills. The bronze-level status means that amateurs as well as pros can compete so there were also a whole bunch of groms throwing down their best dirt jump moves. I wasn’t able to shoot the finals but I did shoot the qualifying event on Friday and I’ve posted a gallery below of my best photos from that session. Martin Soderstrom qualified first, followed by Cameron McCall, Paul Genovese, Paul Basugoitia and Jake Kinney. In the finals, Martin Soderstrom took the win with James Visser in second, Brett Rheeder in third, Paul Genovese in fourth and Cameron McCall taking fifth place.

For the photographers – all these photos were taken with Nikon’s brand new D4 pro digital SLR, which I’m currently testing for PhotographyREVIEW.com. It was excellent for shooting the dirt jump competition! If you want to know more about it, you can read my Nikon D4 intro article and keep your eyes open for a full review.
