Top 3T flat bar-stem combo drives weight down to 200 g, suits urban fixie riders too
Madone, Italy: 9 December 2009
MTB and fixie riders counting the grams will welcome 3T’s new, short ARX LTD stems.
ARX LTD, the range-topping, all carbon-fiber stem, now comes in 8 cm and 9 cm lengths – ideal
for the shorter cockpits of all-mountain bikes designed for long-travel front suspension.
And urban riders who favor an alert, upright position will also welcome ARX LTD in these shorter
lengths, which function better with cut-down bars for traffic-jamming.
ARX LTD is built entirely of composites, with titanium fixing bolts, and weighs just over 100 g. On a
typical road-going bike, its 6° angle gives a rise of 11° or, flipped, 23° above horizontal. Stack
height is a conventional 40 mm.
All ARX MTB stems, which were first seen in the 3T Road range, are CEN-certified for mountainbike
duty. They fit all so-called ‘oversized’ bars of 31.8 mm diameter and are a perfect match with
3T’s recently launched compact MTB bars, XIDA and ERYX.
XIDA is a 640 mm straight bar with a 3° back sweep, ERYX is a 640 mm medium-rise bar with a 7°
back sweep. A compact center section gives more length on either side of the stem to mount
accessories – and more scope for cutting down the width, if the customer is so minded!
Extremely lightweight construction in the best composite materials means that a short ARX LTD
stem mounting a moderately cut-down XIDA LTD bar would weigh, together, a little over 200 g.
