Anna Goes to Washington

Read IMBA Pacific Northwst Region Director Anna Laxague’s blog post from the National Bike Summit where she met with legislators from across her territory. “We come to Representatives and Senators with real solutions and unforgettable stories,” writes Laxague. “This year, our ‘asks’ focused on funding of the Recreational Trails Program. as well as more specific, regionally-based asks.”

New Mexico Land Protection Bill Gains Support From IMBA and Local Cycling Groups

IMBA and several cycling groups in New Mexico are pleased to announce their support for a land protection proposal led by New Mexico’s U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman. Local cycling organizations backing the proposal include the Taos Cycling Coalition, Santa Fe Fat Tire Society, Friends of the Outdoors, Velo De Animas Bicycle Club and the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico.

Join the IMBA Members Meeting Next Month

IMBA members in good standing are invited to participate in a special meeting. Learn about and discuss a recommendation from the IMBA board to restructure IMBA as a Colorado not-for-profit corporation. This change requires IMBA members’ approval. You must register in advance. If your membership is lapsed, please renew prior to registering for the meeting. It will take place online, Friday, May 18 at 5 p.m. MST.

Spring has arrived and it’s time to refresh your IMBA wardrobe. We have a new vintage gold jersey, riding kits, running and casual hats, tech socks, T-shirts and even a beach towel that converts to a chamois-changing cabana when hung on your car door.

$500 Grants Available from Singletracks.com

Singletracks.com, an IMBA supporter, will select two, $500 grant recipients on June 1, 2012, based on which bike clubs (and IMBA chapters) have the most members associated with them on singletracks. Each club can have its own page on the site, and singletracks members can associate themselves with their group. Read the fine print and sign up.

Design Contest! Your Artwork Could Become the 2012 IMBA World Summit Jersey

Primal Wear has graciously stepped up to provide the World Summit jersey, but we’re looking to you to provide the design. IMBA’s first-ever design contest is on now through April 30. If you don’t consider yourself artistic, please share the contest information with your creative friends. IMBA staff will choose their favorite designs and put them up for a public vote in early May. Make sure you’re following us on Facebook so you don’t miss your chance to vote!

Recipe for Success: Creating a Great MTB Destination

Park City, UT, is the only gold-level IMBA Ride Center, meaning that it’s one, awesome place to ride singletrack no matter what your skill level is. Some of our friends there shared advice on how to create the ultimate riding destination that will attract big-spending, adventurous mountain bike tourists (and maybe enter your location in IMBA’s hall of fame).

Give Your Summer Riding Added Purpose

Join IMBA partner Cycle Burn for a challenge to crank out as many mountain bike rides as possible from July 15 to Aug. 15. Donations from the challenge benefit the LIVESTRONG — Lance Armstrong Foundation. The challenge is open to riders of all abilities and there are awards and prizes for winning teams. The first 400 competitors to register receive a one-year subscription to Dirt Rag magazine.
