Banuelos Artcycle – The Arcadian Wooden Bicycle

26er Sea Otter Classic

Every year at the Sea Otter, there are a variety of parts makers, gear creators and bike builders that walk around the expo, hoping to get coverage of their products. Sometimes it’s a guy with a mountain bike with big wheels (Chris Sugai – Niner) or a bike with super wide tires (Greg Matyas – Fatback) or some such innovation.

This year, I spotted Larry Banuelos walking around garnering attention in the expo with his huge blue wooden bike, he called it an Artcycle. Larry is the designer and fabricator and created Banuelos Artcycles (Santa Cruz, CA) by blending his expertise with wood construction and his passion for bicycles.

Each Artcycle is custom made to order and options include 3-speed to 11-speed (check the placement of the Grip Shift in the photos) and coaster or disc brakes. And don’t forget the all important built-in cup holder. With the optional Lighting Theme, think what a killer ride this would make for your next Bike Party!

Currently, the turn around time for your very own Artcycle is 4-6 weeks and the cost is $4000. Not cheap, but custom never is. And custom this is!

Larry is also working on a road bike version that will be available later this summer and it will also be race tested.
