CHUMBA XCL Now Available with RP23 - Under 7lbs.

October 31st, 2007 by Gregg

chumbalogo.jpgchumba_rider.jpg

Anaheim, CA - The CHUMBA XCL now weighs 6.8lbs. with a Fox RP23, and only 6.2 lbs. without a shock. The liberal use of butted tubing allows for the frame to lose weight, putting it within a half pound of most of our competitors, but still retaining industry-leading lateral rigidity and strength. Also, CHUMBA is now offering a high-end light weight build kit, complete with XTR wheels, brakes, and drivetrain, while using a Fox Talas RLC for its front suspension. This light weight build kit should keep the bike around 26-28lbs.

A lot of consumers might misperceive the XCL as a “heavy” bike, but in actuality, the chassis is in the same weight class as our competitors, and the bike can be built up competitively light. Also, be on the lookout for a new titanium light weight hardware kit. For more information, please contact our sales team at 800-706-0760.

CHUMBA is supported by the best companies in the industry, including Shimano, Fox, Chris King, Hope, SRAM, and Industry Nine.

Continental’s Newest MTB Addition

October 31st, 2007 by Gregg

conti_mtnking.jpg
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Olney, Illinois - October 30, 2007

Description:

Conti’s latest addition to the King Series is the Mountain King. This version is designed as the all-mountain tire of the family with lug spacing that readily sheds under muddy conditions, but also knob shape and placement that bites into the dry, loose & rocky trails. The SuperSonic and Pro-Tection versions are handmade in Germany using Continental’s new Black Chili® rubber compound and the Pro-Tection version gets the added durability of Conti’s DuraSkin® sidewall treatment.

Carbon black is a filler commonly used in many rubber compounds regardless of make or model. However the R&D magicians at Conti have developed a means of milling carbon black to an ultra-fine level effectively creating nano-technology for butyl rubber. What does this mean in terms of performance? By shrinking the individual carbon black particles to the comparative size of a soccer ball vs. the earth, we can now put more rubber on the ground with a more flexible, compliant compound. This incredible formula delivers performance advances on the order of 30% increased adhesion, 26%
lower rolling resistance and 5% improved mileage.

In a nut-shell, Black Chili Compound rolls: stickier – faster – longer!

Intense Cycles Scales back Internet/Mail Order Outlets

October 31st, 2007 by Gregg

intense_flames.jpg
Intense Cycles continues to build its dealer and distributor network throughout the U.S. and abroad and in an effort to support the brick and mortar dealers around the globe, Intense has terminated relationships with several online/mail order retailers. “There are still places in the world where you cannot walk into a shop and purchase an Intense frame or bike, so we understand the reason for an online/mail order presence, but as we bring on more dealers, the need for multiple internet retailers is no longer there. The companies we have chosen to partner with have proven over the years to not only present Intense in a professional manner, hold our MSRP and provide after sales service and support, but have also promoted our brand through demo programs, race teams, open house and other events. In the short term this move may cost us some sales, but we believe that in the long term we will gain them back, and more, by supporting our dealer and distributor network”

NAHBS in Portland Promises to be a Hit

Four Months Out, Exhibitor Numbers Head for Record High
For Immediate Release 2007-10-24

SPEEDWAY, Indiana – The North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS), the world’s largest trade/consumer show for custom-built bicycles, is gearing up for one of the greatest celebrations yet of the art, craft, and innovation that is encompassed in the world of bicycle framebuilding. After two years in San Jose, California, the 2008 show will be held in the Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, February 8-10.

Show director, Don Walker, the founder of NAHBS and an esteemed builder of 10 years himself, says “on display will be the most beautiful objects in the cycling world, and I mean the whole cycling world. I have it on the authority of a respected British journalist that US builders are currently regarded as the cream of the international crop in bespoke frame making. For anybody who’s even remotely into bicycles, or design, or engineering, this is a ‘do not miss’ event.”

The array of beautiful bicycles will not only be rich, but vast. The show, which is gaining in popularity at an astonishing rate, has 92 exhibitors registered already. This is only 11 short of last year’s total of 103. Booth space sales are already close to the ‘07 figure of 130, and with seven weeks of registration remaining it is possible that all 200 both spaces might sell out. Exhibitor registration closes December 15, 2007.

Among the busiest booths are likely to be those of the carbon fiber master Nick Crumpton, Tony Pereira (winner of the Best Filet Brazed, Best Road, and Best Off-Road categories at the 2007 NAHBS), Coconino, Rock Lobster, Brian Baylis (see photo below) and of course Richard Sachs, who has a six year waiting list for one of his frames.

As the show continues to grow in size and status, Walker increasingly sees it as a venue for key manufacturers to reach their target audience. “As a sponsorship vehicle, the NAHBS show provides a two-fold opportunity. First of all, it is a place for the more upscale manufacturers to engender some brand loyalty - afterall, people just love this show and those that help provide it. Secondly, NAHBS is a unique opportunity for people like component manufacturers to connect with the handmade bicycles industry to find out the innovative ways their components are being used - uses that the large scale manufacturers would never conceive. These are the flagship display bicycles for component makers.”

About The North American Handmade Bicycle Show

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show is dedicated to showcasing the talents of individuals around the world whose art form is the bicycle. It aims to be a gathering point – online and in person – for framebuilders and consumers looking for custom-made bikes, for the sharing of ideas and promotion of this industry and its traditions. After three years of growing by leaps and bounds, NAHBS 2008 will feature still more exhibitors, consumers and a wealth of seminars. For more information, see

BC Bike Race “The Ultimate Singletrack Experience” 2008 Registration Hits 50%

October 24th, 2007 by Gregg

bcbikerace_logo.jpg
Vancouver, BC Canada October 15, 2007 -

Slated for June 28 - July 4, the BC Bike Race has begun 2008 registration with a flood of international entries; they are already at 50% capacity and fully expect to sell out all 400 available spots (based on teams of 2, the BCBR also includes teams of 4)..

This year’s inaugural July 1-7 run of the BC Bike Race turned some heads as race organizers defined their flavor - “The Ultimate Singletrack Experience” - in the world of epic mountain bike stage racing. It’s no surprise then that Chris Eatough, the winner of this year’s event and six-time 24-hour World Champion, praised, “The BC Bike Race was amazing. The best MTB race in the world, no doubt.”

Beginning early and planning ahead are key phrases that stir the passions in BC Bike Race organizers and riders alike. For 2008 they both look forward to another epic, 7-day mountain bike adventure from Victoria to Whistler that covers nearly 600 kilometers and climbs just over 10 000 meters.

The brain child of Dean Payne, founder of sea2summit adventure races, the BC Bike Race is located on trails made for mountain biking by mountain bikers. “This is a mountain biking Mecca,” said Payne, “Look around - every trail is a virtual legend unto itself!”

“Last year we were a new product on the market - it was a huge success. This year we are taking our time to ensure that no stone, no burm, no possible extra piece of tasty singletrack is left un-ridden”, shared Days 5 and 6 Course Director, Grant Lamont.

Adventure hungry mountain bikers are lining up to shred the tasty singletrack being groomed for BC Bike Race 2008. All 400 (teams of 2 and limited teams of 4) are sure to be blown away by the end of their experience.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Randall Scott Company

www.rscycle.com

Boulder, CO –10/15/2007–
Randall Scott Company, The World’s second best Cycling and Adventure Company headquartered In Boulder CO, recently completed its first annual Eco Arts Tour.

Randall Scott has always placed a premium on - not just bringing its customers great deals on cycling and outdoor products - but using our passion for the outdoors and affinity for community as an impetus to create something greater than a standard consumer/retailer dynamic.

I’ve always enjoyed working here at RS because of the way creativity is embraced and encouraged on all levels, and last weekend was really a culmination of this philosophy.

What was our First Annual Eco Tour? Well. Eco Arts has been around for a while now, and can aptly be described as a, “growing community of artists, scientists, curators, writers, nonprofits and businesses who are developing creative and innovative strategies to address our global environmental issues.”

In conjunction with BMOCA (Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art), Elephant Magazine, and the aforementioned Eco Artists, we threw a 2 wheel party that winded through the city of Boulder on a cloudless fall afternoon. Visiting different exhibits, our tour guides brought us through a myriad of pieces that combined art and science in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and the preservation of our planet.

The afternoon tour ended here at Randall Scott Headquarters where we had the World’s best 80’s DJ, complimentary kegs from local brewery Avery (with recycled cups and utensils supplied by Ecocycle), and the grand opening of our in house Gallery, which has yet to be named.

The Gallery features work from local artist, employees, and is another outlet to perpetuate a message of camaraderie, lifestyle and environmental awareness. The turnout was great, and the impact may be felt long into the future, as an Eco Arts head honcho was present and eager to use this event as a model going forward.

Learn more of Love, love lost, unrequited love, and love found at the Randall Scott Lifestyle Blog.

Check out upcoming events on our Community Calendar

Visit our new concept showroom via the web, or in person in gorgeous Boulder, CO
Here at Randall Scott we run on the simple philosophy that everyone should have endless options to make their adventures come true, receive world class customer service, be educated about the 80’s, and have these needs met with the least possible impact on mother nature. We aim to foster a community where buyer and seller respect and trust one another as we search for the best way to explore, enjoy, and preserve this radical planet.
