Mark Arthur Reynolds Memorial Fund and Race Event

April 30th, 2008 by adam

Los Angeles, CA — A fund raiser is being held in conjunction with the
CCCX Downhill Race Series starting this Saturday, May 3rd in honor of
Mark A. Reynolds who died on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

Mark’s death was a result of the crash he had while competing in the
Downhill race during the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA. Mark, who
was just 48 years old, was the owner of Wicked Racin and innovator of
the Dualrailluer Guide for which is in the process of being patented
as the first dual chain ring guide. Mark was an avid mountain biker
who raced competitively and he also enjoyed the action sports scene
including snowboarding, wake boarding and even piloting airplanes. He
was also a friend to many as well as a mentor to those looking to
improve their skills.

After hearing the news on Saturday, members of the Evomo Mountain Bike
Team stepped forward to contact fellow industry companies in order to
organize a memorial fund raiser in Mark’s name. “I feel it’s the right
thing to do and I really feel for the family who had to hear such
terrible news”, said Tom Judy, Evomo Downhill Team Member. Everyone on
the Evomo team instantly said they would be happy to make a collective
Team donation to help. Within a few days, Fox Racing was ready to ship
out some product donations and Keith DeFiebre, CCCX race organizer,
offered his event location as a place to hold the fund raiser. “It was
pretty awesome to get such instant support”, said Tom Judy.

Mark’s family hopes to contribute to a freeride or jump park that will
be named after Mark so that people of all levels can enjoy the sport
of mountain biking and can feel encouraged and supported, just as Mark
made all of us feel.

Fox Racing Shox, Evomo, X-Fusion, Pactimo, Stan’s No Tubes, Cool
Cycling Club, Calabazas Cyclery, Trailhead Cyclery, and Auburn Bike
Works have already stepped up to donate cash or product for the fund
raising raffle that will be held at the CCCX DH Race Series finale on
Sunday, June 22. Memorial T-shirts and raffle tickets will be for sale
at this weekends event in which all proceeds will go to the fund in
honor of Mark. “By having a huge raffle at our series finale in June
we are able to maximize the cash we can raise by selling tickets at
the next 5 races”, said Keith DeFiebre, CCCX Race organizer.

This weekend’s event will be held at Toro Park in California, located
between Salinas and Monterey off of Hwy 68 just minutes from Laguna
Seca Raceway. Registration for racing opens at 8am.

Donation information, please visit www.wickedracin.com where you can
make a cash donation in his Mark’s name via PayPal.

Improvement of the concept of Top Bikers Cup 2008 - Lisboa, Portugal

April 30th, 2008 by adam

image0120.jpg

Since the first hour TBC 2008 has proved to be a project of enormous irreverence, novelty and flexibility, intending to involve all kinds of players of this wonderful modality.

It’s not about a competition destined just to the elites. On the contrary, it aims to receive everyone, from the weekend practitioner to the most well prepared athlete, in an initiative with cares redoubled as far as the quality of the event is concerned.

This way, after developing the several suggestions and answering the questions made to the organization of the event via email or phone, it was decided to make some adjustments seen as relevant to the participation of most teams interested in the initiative.

Therefore, the following upgrades were added to the concept of TBC® 2008:

o Teams of 3 to 5 elements, instead of 5 element teams exclusively.

o Elimination of the condition of at least one woman per team.

o Every team competes for the same classification, whatever the team’s number of elements.

o Reduction of the participation fees:

Without Lunch and Dinner With Lunch and Dinner
3 member Teams 190€ 200€
4 member Teams 235€ 245€
5 member Teams 285€ 295€

o The participants may choose not to reserve lunch and dinner, obtaining a 10€ reduction for each member on the amounts referred. Without the main meals, the participation fees will be 190€ for 3 member teams, 235€ for 4 member teams and 285€ for 5 rider teams.

o Readjustment of the technical component tests, only maintaining the stopwatch test of the phased assemblage of the bike.

o Extension of the application time limit until May 26th.

With these changes, we answer to the great majority of the suggestions of those interested in the event, making this initiative closer to the BTT community wishes.

Keep oncycling…

RXR Protect signs Australian DH wonder Will Rischbieth

April 29th, 2008 by adam

rxr_logo.jpg

Lake Zurich, IL (April 28, 2008) – Everyone at RXR Protect is excited to announce the signing of rising young Australian Downhill star Will Rischbieth to the RXR Bike team. At 18 years of age, after numerous successes in U-19 competitions, Will, a native of Southern Australia, is turning pro and looking forward to a successful rookie season in the 2008 Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

image0117.jpg

Rischbieth, perhaps one of the most naturally talented youngsters in the world of downhill was diagnosed with a congenital defect in his back in 2004 (with symptoms similar to a permanent stress fracture in his vertebrae) and thought his sporting career was over. Less than 4 years later, this heartbreaking diagnosis has proven to be the catalyst in the 18-year-old’s meteoric rise to the top of Australian and world mountain biking. Member of the 2007 Australian world junior men’s team Will already counts a few titles including 2007 U-19 Downhill Australia champion, as well as 2007 UCI Oceania U-19 champion.

Fresh from a Top 3 in the Australian downhill championship, Will is on his way to the 2008 Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, starting with the first round in Maribor, Slovenia, on May 10th. Will’s sponsors in addition to RXR Protect include Giant, Ogio.

Kona Team Riders Test Limits On U.S. And International Soil

April 29th, 2008 by adam

kona_logo1.jpg

- Six Factory Team Athletes Hit Trails In Germany, Scotland And Monterey, While CLUMP’s Paul Basagoitia Nails First At T-Mobile Extreme Playground Event -

KONAWORLD (April 28, 2008) – Cruising full stride into the racing season, both the Kona Factory and CLUMP teams made their presence known both in the U.S. and on international turf over the last two weeks with some impressive feats. The top performances were captured by Paul “Bas” Basagoitia who grabbed first place at the T-Mobile Extreme Playground event in Germany, Tracy Moseley charging to second place in soggy conditions at the first UK National DH event in Ae Forest, Scotland and Ryan Trebon claiming second in the Short Track XC race at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA.

image0116.jpg

With members of the CLUMP team making their rounds in Europe over the last two weeks, Basagoitia simply stole the show with his high-flying antics. Taking his confidence and no-fear attitude to an indoor course that featured drops, spines and three good sized dirt jumps, Basagoitia plowed through the qualifying rounds in style and led the charge for the CLUMP. Also throwing down were CLUMPsters John Cowan and Grant “Chopper” Fielder who rode well in the early rounds. Last weekend, Kona Europe rider Mischa Breitenstein of Switzerland nabbed second in the 15-rider finals at the Nissan Qashqai Challenge in Milan, Italy, and Fielder took third at the Nissan Townhill slopestyle event in Bergamo, Italy.

Making headlines for the Factory Team lately were XC and DH monsters Barry Wicks, Trebon, Erik Tonkin, Kris Sneddon, Moseley and Wendy Simms. Last weekend, Moseley competed in the first event of the UK National DH series in Ae Forest, Scotland, and hit the podium in second. Racing on a brand new rig, Moseley battled soggy, technical and challenging course conditions to hold onto second place despite barely being able to keep her tires mud-free.

image025.jpg

Also last weekend, Wicks, Sneddon and Simms stormed the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Offenburg, Germany. Racing in the women’s elite XC class, Simms nabbed 22nd in the 111-rider field finishing with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, 42 seconds. Along the 33K course, Simms tackled the technical sections of “Wolfsdrop” and “Snake Pit” en route to finishing just eight minutes behind the winner. Competing on roughly the same course (38K), Wicks and Sneddon broke the top 100 – finishing 83rd and 100th, respectively. The duos World Cup race featured 217 racers.

The team of Simms, Wicks and Sneddon were coming off World Cup XC races in Houffalize, Belgium the week before where Simms finished 26th, Wicks 61st and Sneddon 133rd.

Wrapping up the Factory Team’s racing exploits were Trebon and Tonkin’s efforts at the cold and super-windy Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA. Competing in his inaugural race on a 29er, Trebon took second in the Short Track XC race after battling with Sam Schultz of Subaru/GF to the finish. In the XC race the following day, a lethargic Trebon held onto 44th, while Tonkin reeled in 16th place.

The first Mtbr Trail Work day is a big hit.

April 28th, 2008 by Francois

collage.jpg

April 27 -2008 - Mtbr.com teamed up with Trailworkers.com to work on Soquel Demonstration Forest in Santa Cruz, CA. Where normal volunteer crews have 8-10 people, Mtbr was able to help recruit a group of 30 people to work and enjoy the day together. It is rumored that food, beer, and swag were used to aid the recruitment effort

The crew was so big that elaborate planning had to take place to get the workers and all the equipment deep in the forest. With the main access road closed, head Foresters Thomas Sutfin and Edgar Orre had to get creative and use private roads to drive everyone in. Let’s just say the drive alone was a four-wheeling adventure.

The trail workers were broken up into several groups to take advantage of the team size. The crew worked on a two-mile stretch of Ridge trail to Sawpit Trail. Some of the work done were:

- cutting water drainage

- pruning branches and shrubs

- removing sharp and dangerous obstacles

- creating access routes for the Forester’s ATV utility vehicle

- improving flow and rideability of the trail

- and of course creating berms and fun obstacles and features

The day was not only rewarding but extremely fun as well. The crew worked hard and enjoyed each other’s company. Lots of smiles were had and lots of photos were taken. After the trail work, the group had a huge picnic and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon eating and product testing the new Mtbr Pint glass by Soquel Creek.

With our busy lives, there’s a million reasons not to do trail work. Mtbr wants to make it rewarding and fun. It should be an easy decision. It should be a commitment that we look forward to. Trail systems like the Soquel Demo Forest are worth every ounce of effort we put into them.

Newport Beach, Calif (April 24, 2008) TAG Wheels(r), the US manufacturer of the toughest, lowest maintenance bicycle wheels in the world, today announces a significant price reduction on their bombproof FRX5 wheelset. The new suggested retail price of $799US vs. $949US takes effect immediately.

The FRX5 wheelset is a one-piece, hollow, reinforced, five-spoke composite wheel built around the reliable and durable DT Swiss 440 hubs. The wheels, which feature the star ratchet engagement system, accommodate most axle configurations with simple end cap adapters.

“The price reduction is a strategic move to get more riders on the FRX5 wheelset,” says Mike Thomas, Vice-President of TAG Wheels. “Clearly riders are looking for tough, long lasting wheels but the wheels need to be affordable. The FRX5 wheels take punishment, require ultra low maintenance, last for many years, and now they’re even cheaper to own. All qualities customers tell us they want in a wheelset.”

FRX5 wheels are proudly made in the USA and feature a two-year warranty. The wheels boast a wide range of applications: from DH and freeride bikes, to urban and all mountain. In addition, TAG FRX5 wheels are used on gravity park rental fleets, police bikes, by pro stunt riders, aggressive and heavy riders. April 24th, 2008 by adam

banner1.jpg

KENT, WA - Diamondback announced today the release of a new aggressive all-mountain / park bike called the Scapegoat. The Scapegoat was initially a concept bike the company developed to show another use for their Knuckle Box suspension design and displayed at the Interbike show last year. Interest in the bike lead to the company producing it, but in a very limited quantity. There were only 20 produced for the entire continental U.S.

Diamondback Marketing Coordinator Trevor Knesal stated, “The Scapegoat is an all-mountain / park rider’s dream bike built up using a frame that is essentially a Diamondback Mission, but with a 1.5” head tube, a more robust down tube, an ISCG mount, and another mount on the seat tube for a floating disc brake system”. It is clear that the company spared no expense developing this bike.

More information on the Scapegoat project can be found at www.diamondback.com
