Description:

At its core, the MR16 light is a motorcycle light. That’s why it is so big. The light head is about as wide as a waterbottle and weighs almost a lb. The whole system weighs in at 2.2 lbs compared to most high end LED systems now at 1 lb.

That’s why it’s so bright at 1850 lumens. It’s designed so you can go offroad on the motorcycle at 50 mph.  And that’s why it’s so cheap.  The economies of scale in  the motorcycle industry are a little better and I don’t think they would dare sell a light over $500 for fear of retribution.

Prokop kidnapped by UFO. Again!

December 18th, 2008 by adam

It was back in the end of Prokop’s year 2006 when Extra-Terrestrial spaceship full of amazing stuff landed in the Schladming airbase to pick-up the very best fourcross rider available here on the globe. None men in black were there ready for action, so aliens had quite time to make Prokop an offer he couldn’t refuse. Deal was done and last two years Michal Prokop was working hard for those ETs based in Italy. Using UFO products, Prokop the almost alien, was taking another inter-galactic winnings day by day. He even brought that UFO trade mark to the most prestigious sports event here, the Olympic Games in Beijing!

Those aliens keep their word and they worked hard to incorporate various new cool Prokop signature products into their space product line. Now, the UFO technology is available also for you, terrestrials! How about Prokop Air Knee-Shin Guards to protect your vulnerable body?! Put Prokop Bandage over the guards to get unbeatable combo.

The Olympic season is over. Prokop is going back to the fourcross racing to catch third rainbow jersey and third World Cup title captured in the meantime by speedy Spanish fly. Also that Yeti kangaroo appears to have a fancy for some gold. And there are many others… Well, Prokop needs some serious help and his friends are back…

Prokop was kidnapped by UFO. Again! Just heard at UFO headquarters… they will keep Mr. Prokop for another two years!!!

NASA spokesman told us nothing more than “no comment”… but then he continued… “All I can do for you is to provide you with a translation of just recorded and decrypted message coming from somewhere in cosmos…”

Mr. Simone Consoloni, director of UFO Plast MTB and BMX departments:

“We are happy to announce that Michal Prokop: two times Fourcross World Champion, two times Fourcross World Cup Winner and runner-up in the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, chooses UFO Plast to be his partner for race wear and body protectors for another two years! This cooperation is definitely great success for all of us. It is undoubtedly one of the main achievements for UFO Plast, and we expect this signing to really help us. Michal is one of the strongest, fastest, smoothest and highly motivated guys both on gravity mountain bike or the BMX scene - a real Pro rider. Our cooperation won’t be just about product and financial support. We will develop and test together new ranges of pants, shorts, gloves and body protection. Michal, being so focused on all the smallest details of his equipment is the perfect partner for this”.

We were lucky enough to locate Michal Prokop at his top secret training facility in the Russian Baikonur Cosmodrome. He said…
To continue being an ambassador of such a great group of friends that I found in UFO Plast, it makes me really proud and satisfied. I am bit of a fanatic when choosing my race wear and all I can say after two years of riding UFO gear is just… go ahead to pick some UFO stuff! It all looks sweet as well as it works. You will see me riding new Lightning shorts combined with Prokop Air Knee-Shin guards at fourcross World Cups and brand new made in Italy Wanted pants when BMX comes to my schedule. UFO Airbase are the gloves of my choice. Black & white, that’s my style for 2009. Hopefully, the rest of the field will exclusively see the only alien on my back, while aliens can get many opportunities to smile from the top of podium…”

Early Bird Registration Opens for the National Bike Summit, March 10-12

Early Bird Registration Opens for the National Bike Summit, March 10-12

Join IMBA and an expected 600 bicycle advocates at the 2009 National Bike Summit, March 10-12, in Washington, D.C. Hosted by the League of American Bicyclists, the Summit provides a unique opportunity for mountain bikers to interact with cyclists of all stripes, attend diverse informational sessions and lobby the halls of Congress. IMBA supporters who attend receive discounted registration, a private banquet dinner and tons of great swag.

An Extremely Important Year for the National Bike Summit

The sweeping administrative and congressional changes in D.C. make 2009 an extremely important year. “With so many new members of congress, it’s more important than ever to show them the human face of mountain biking and introduce yourself to their staff and your issues,” says IMBA Government Affairs Director Jenn Dice. “Mountain bikers have a golden opportunity to protect more land, influence public lands bills, increase funding for trails and lay the foundation for productive working relationships.”

Attendees will be treated to presentations and panel discussions on many important topics. IMBA is currently finalizing an exceptional line-up of speakers and sessions to cover the following topics: urban trails and jump parks, integrating trails and neighborhoods, small-group land protection training, funding for the National Park Service and integrating singletrack into the Bicycle Friendly Community program.

Sign up online to attend the National Bike Summit. Early bird registration is now open and available through Feb. 5.

Bolster Your Trails by Attending the National Bike Summit

The Summit is the perfect way to build a relationship with your member of congress. U.S. representatives and senators can be very powerful allies when the time comes to develop singletrack destinations. Just ask the Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC), who garnered $800,000 for new singletrack north of Minneapolis. “Your congressional office can help you find the right way to go after money for trails. The funding opportunities are there, but you have to go out and get it,” says MORC’s Tim Wegner.

Mike Dulin, of the Kentucky Mountain Biking Association, says, “Last year’s Summit was amazing. The combined knowledge of so many fellow cycling advocates is truly inspiring and the meetings on Capitol Hill are a fantastic way to get the ball rolling on new trails projects.”

Advocates looking to influence public lands protection also benefit from coming to D.C. “We’ve sent Virginians to the National Bike Summit the past few years and it’s undoubtedly helped us become better advocates for mountain biking and protected landscapes in the Jefferson and George Washington national forests,” says IMBA Trail Solutions Director Rich Edwards.

Resources to Get the Most Out of the National Bike Summit

IMBA pulls out the stops to make sure mountain bikers make the most of this event. Attendees are encouraged to register early so they can join pre-Summit conference calls and take advantage of IMBA’s online resources for comprehensive guidance on a variety of topics, including how to raise money to attend and finding lodging options. Limited scholarship money is available to help offset costs.

If you’re serious about taking your local singletrack to the next level, make sure the National Bike Summit is on your schedule.

Team Monster Energy®/Specialized® to Race on SRAM, RockShox, Avid & Truvativ components

December 17th, 2008 by adam

After much anticipation, the dynamic duo of Sam Hill and Brendan Fairclough recently announced their new ride with Specialized. While this will be a new frame partner, the two time World Cup DH Champion Sam Hill chose to remain on SRAM. Both Hill and Fairclough will compete on SRAM drivetrain, RockShox suspension forks and rear shocks and Avid brakes. New starting in 2009, the team will also ride Truvativ cranksets. The agreement is for the next three years.

Hill has been part of the SRAM racing family for the past six years. Since 2003, he’s been a part of the elite BlackBox® program. Once BlackBox riders become part of SRAM’s racing development program, they provide feedback that is imperative to industry leading product development. Recently, Hill was instrumental in testing the newest RockShox BoXXer®, which will start shipping early 2009. Sam says, “I’m really excited to be back on SRAM, RockShox and Avid for the next 3 years. It’s important for me to have confidence in the products I use. I’ve won World Championships with these components on my bike in the past and feel that they are the best. It’s going to be great using Truvativ cranks. They make a great product and seem to keep coming up with cool new ideas, so I look forward to working with them.”

BlackBox Racing program manager, Jon Cancellier works hand-in-hand with the athletes. Cancellier said, “Working with Sam is extremely valuable. Sam knows what he needs to win, and I enjoy delivering what he needs to be fast.” Jon went on to say, “Sam is able to provide thorough feedback that our product teams can apply. He can articulate details that in the end, improve the performance of products the consumers can ride.”

Brendon Fairclough knows how to go fast, and has posted excellent results, too. Not only has Fairclough achieved the British National Championship top spot, he’s done it five times! Fairclough has also earned the Junior World Cup DH Champion title. Fairclough said, “I’m really happy to be back on SRAM again. They’ve been good to me from a young age and its great to have people around you that you can trust. I feel good knowing I have the best product on my bike. It’s been good working with RockShox this year, helping me out with all the fine little things that we change throughout the year and getting everything 100% sorted. I’m looking forward to 2009, and to get dialed in as well!”

Team Monster Energy Manager, Sean Heimdal, said, “I’m very pleased to continue working with SRAM. As a team, we enjoy the support that’s come from the long term relationship. Moving forward and growing the relationship with SRAM allows us to focus on racing and in turn, winning.” Heimdal also said, “The choice of the Monster Energy team to ride Truvativ cranks is an exciting one. With a variety of light and stiff cranksets, the team looks forward to the new addition.”
