Formula Disc Brakes : November 09

October 30th, 2009 by adam

Interbike 2009 Recap

Now that the fog has cleared (we think that was fog??), we can look back and say Interbike 2009 was a smashing success for Formula Disc Brakes. Despite threats from the weatherman, the temperatures at the Outdoor Demo didn’t go over the triple digit mark. Our expanded Dirt Demo booth was host to a successful happy hour / beer tasting event with suds provided by Petaluma’s own Lagunitas Brewery. When it was all said and done, we had 2 leftover 20lb bags of tortilla chips, but strangely enough…not a drop of beer. Needless to say, no one left thirsty! The early (er…proactive) drinkers even picked up one of our limited edition pint glasses: Formula - Beer - Interbike 2009! We saw more Formula Brakes than ever before speced on dirt demo test bikes this year and the feedback on the 2010 product was outstanding. If you didn’t get a chance to try the product, head down to your local Ibis, Rocky Mountain, Santa Cruz, or Turner dealer and you may be able to let your fingers experience a little bit of braking heaven. At the indoor exhibition, we sported a new booth look for 2009 and more dealer support than ever before. Espresso was flowing freely, and the booth chatter was focused on the value of the new RX brake and the astounding weight and looks of the revised 2010 version of THE ONE. The 2010 line up is looking pretty darn exciting! Formula has firmly anchored down the Lightest and Most Powerful brake in every class for 2010. Have a look at the next section of this newsletter and our MTBR Virtual Tradeshow Booth for a preview of whats to come.

October 30th, 2009 by adam

Hi Everyone

Claire Buchar is up for the ‘Canadian Cyclist of the year’ award. This past year she achieved her first ever World Cup podium in South Africa and she won the womenzworx event at Crankworx as well as finishing 9th overall in the World Cup standings. You can see a picture of Claire sending the huge drop in at the top of the slope style course at Crankworx in this months issue of DIRT magazine on page 108. It really is impressive.

So please vote for Claire on the link below, it only takes a few seconds and I think she deserves all our votes.

e*thirteen Introducing the SS+

October 29th, 2009 by adam

Thought it noteworthy to mention the MSRP of $89.95!!

Leominster, October 29, 2009, e*thirteen components

In a tireless effort to perfect chain retention systems across the board e*thirteen components has once again raised the standard by which all other chainguides are judged. As the industry leader in chain retention, e*thirteen realizes the importance of making advanced technologies more accessible to budget conscious riders and racers. We believe that a recessed world economy should not be a barrier to enjoying the sports of downhill riding and racing (or even freechucking), and we’re proving it!

e*thirteen’s new SS+ guide is the second generation of the already popular SS backplate design. Following in the footprints of its big brother, the SS+ leverages the strength and reliability that helped the SRS+ win the 2009 UCI DH World Cup overall into a cost effective package that beginning riders will appreciate.

This groundbreaking design was shaped by hundreds of hours of engineering and analysis. Once again, e*thirteen has pushed the limits of new technologies, and through advancing stamped steel manufacturing produced the most technologically advanced pricepoint chain retention system ever conceived.

After having been tested on our own bikes and the World Cup circuit for over a year the SS+ has proven to be just as strong and reliable as the SRS+ retention system, and at a meager 258 grams the SS+ is by far the lightest full-bashguard retention system at its price point. The SS+’s weight is less than almost all of our competitions top end aluminum chainguides!

Affordable, reliable, lightweight chain retention has been born. The old adage “Cheap, light and strong – you can only pick two” has just been deleted.

SS+ Chain Retention System

  • Uses World Cup winning SRS+ guide design

· Fixed position wear-plates for simple, no-hassle setup

· Includes impact-flexure design Turbocharger Bashguard patents pending

· 32-36T chainring capacity

· High tensile chrome-moly steel backplate

  • Anti-corrosion nickel-chrome plated

· New Tech 3 Stealth Idler

· 258 grams light! Super strong and super light!! And crazy awesome!!!

· $89.95 MSRP

Trust the Security of an e*thirteen, anything else is just a chainguide.

USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships open with cross country contests

October 22nd, 2009 by adam

USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships open with cross country contests

Truckee, Calif. (October 16, 2009) – The USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships kicked off on Friday as nearly 300 student athletes converged on the Northstar at Tahoe Resort to compete for a total of 22 national titles over three days.

The first day of racing saw the coeds battle it out for individual titles in the cross country contests. The rain from earlier in the week settled down what is normally a dusty course, making for perfect racing conditions. The women in Divisions I and II went off bright and early at 8:00 a.m. for three chilly laps of the 7.5-mile loop while the men in both divisions toed the line at high noon for four laps.

Arguably putting forth the most dominating performance of the day was Fort Lewis College’s Rotem Ishay. The Israeli National immediately took control of the 30-mile contest, building a substantial lead in lap one. Eventually growing his lead to eight minutes by the end, he rolled into the finish area for the win, looking like he still had the energy to go another lap.
