Munich, Germany, March 13th – Following the announcement of BIKE EXPO at the end of January, Messe München GmbH, the organizer of the new cycling trade show, has been receiving a multitude of inquiries. To date, the Consumer Goods Business Unit Team, also responsible for ispo winter, has received plenty of positive feedback – and not just from the industry. Lord Mayor Christian Ude is a prominent supporter of BIKE EXPO. In 2006 Munich’s Lord Mayor was honored with the “best for bike” award as the most bicycle-friendly personality of the year, and he welcomes the cycling initiative by Messe München GmbH. “As a passionate leisure and day-to-day cyclist and in my function as the Lord Mayor of Munich I am very pleased that Messe München GmbH is launching a new significant bicycle trade fair in Munich - BIKE EXPO“, says Ude.
Meanwhile, the preparations for BIKE EXPO are in full swing. Exhibitor forms were mailed and the first booths spaces rented. The website www.bike-expo.com is available in three languages, German, English, and Chinese, and offers continuously updated information and news on the trade show. In addition, the project management secured a collaboration with Taipei Cycle, the world’s third-largest bicycle exposition held next week, which BIKE EXPO will attend with a special booth.
One of the biggest highlights of the BIKE EXPO will be the international BMX and mountain bike dirt jump contests. The world’s best riders are invited to show the trade show visitors their most spectacular jumps and tricks on a super-sized dirt course. These contests are just a part of the multi-faceted, unconventional side event program, which will lend BIKE EXPO its special atmosphere. It is planned to pack the Bike Expo days with a Junior Trophy, an E-Bike and mountain bike test course, cycling technique seminars and even more activities for pros, amateurs, and other interested visitors. The exposition project team is currently also negotiating with international music acts to plan a live gig that will heat up Saturday night.
The Velonale includes three competitions: Touring, a 40-km-long track for hobby cyclists; Renner, a 60-km-long trail for hobby racers; and Chrono, a 40-km-long track for individually timed and team timed racing (4-person teams) for ambitious cyclists. To date there has been a lot of positive response, which will likely culminate in the participation of several thousand cyclists at the event’s premiere.
