BACK TO BASICS

Back To Basics is a new feature we will be featuring in the next few Ergon Newsletters. As the name implies it will offer a refresher course in Ergon products. Here at Ergon we often receive the same questions and concern via email and at events we travel to. In order to better educate our users, we bring you ‘Back To Basics: GX Series’

BASICS:
A race optimized version of our original wing platform design. Our shape shape reduces pressure on the ulnar nerve and provides support to the hand while reducing strain to the wrists and forearms. GX SERIES:
- Unisex one size
- GX3: Adjustable full size barend (March ‘09)
- GX2: Adjustable bar ends of Carbon or Magnesium

WING SHAPE:
The GX series reduced shape is an evolved version of our innovative ergonomic design. Developed specifically for racers, the wing platform is more compact, allowing more hand positions and takes pressure off the nerves in your hands, wrists and forearms. Special internal structure provides support and prevents grip deformation
over time.

MATERIALS:
Lightweight rubber surface. Racing off-road or riding for miles and
miles places specific pressures on the hand. Our in-molded rubber surface absorbs shock and pressure that results from long hours in the saddle.

Adjustable to fit the way you ride. GX2 features our ergonomic sculpted bar end is available in Carbon or Magnesium. The bar end
also works as a clamp to prevent grip slip. GX1 features a forged alloy clamp. Adjust to your personal needs and lock it in place.

- World Class Mountain bikers
- Endurance rider/racers

DAVE WIENS FEATURED IN OUTSIDE MAGAZINE

On no particular evening, you find yourself wandering into the book store by your house. Sure they have books, but you usually gravitate toward all the colorful magazines resting on the shelves. The glossy covers catch your attention and taunt you out of the corner of your eye.

After thumbing through an Outside magazine, you come across a section that says, “The League of Extra-Ordinary Gentlemen” and see a familiar welcoming face of a man who is not only a mountain bike legend and great guy, but a man who says he is more passionate about trail advocacy than racing mountain bikes. Coming from Dave Wiens, who has been on numerous world cup podiums and who beat Lance Armstrong in the Leadville 100 last year, you know that must be a pretty strong passion.

Here is Dave’s take on the Outside article and challenges associated with being a trail builder.

Dave is the man. He took the sport of mountain biking and giving back to the community to another level. He created a non-profit organization called Gunnison Trails whom have created trails that span 30+ miles in Gunnison, CO. He wasn’t alone in his passion for trail building. His core group of 25 volunteers and the man himself have personally cultivated the land to create a beautiful singletrack haven for everyone to enjoy. He and the non-profit organization are currently working to create 40 miles of singletrack from Gunnison to Crested Butte.

Gunnison Trails’ mission is not only to build sweet singletrack for us to shred with our favorite mountain bike, but to promote education. Education that involves protecting natural resources and wildlife, sustainability, community, and teach trail users how to treat the trails with respect.

However, Dave has not forgotten his racing roots and is also promoting a race on May 24, 2009 called the The Original Growler. All proceeds from The Original Growler go to Gunnison Trails to further the efforts for trails in the Gunnison area. The course consists of a 32-mile loop. The Original Growler is two laps for a grueling 64-mile race. There is also a 32 mile race option called The Half Growler. It’s a great opportunity to ride some of the trails that Dave and the Gunnison Trails volunteers have personally designed and cut. Will you be there? We sure will!! See you on the Gunnison Trails!

FROSTBIKE

Every February the mega bicycle distributor, Quality Bicycle Product (QBP), holds an open house for all of its dealers & vendors at its home office in Bloomington, MN. This gives brands and bike shops the time to get face to face time on a personal level as well as get hands on with all the products that QBP distributes.

QBP is one of Ergon’s largest distributors in the USA. Chances are if you see Ergon on your bike shop store shelves, it comes from here. The Frostbike show and open house is one of those events the bike shop folks look forward to each year. This year was no different, as the masses invaded QBP to drool all over the latest bicycle tech.

Ergon is introducing many new products this year, including the GA1, and GX3. New products also means new colors and new bar plugs.

Ergon presence at the event was small..…but that didn’t mean we weren’t busy. Sharing a booth with Topeak, we hand numerous folks swing by to ask questions, see new product, try on the packs, and tell us how they can’t keep the product in stock.

2009 is sure to be a fantastic year for Ergon and its users!

ERGON DOMINATES AT THE 24 HOURS IN THE OLD PUEBLO

Ergon athletes started the 2009 season off right where they left off in 2008…..winning! The 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo outside of Tucson, AZ is the un-official kick off to the endurance racing season. Every February thousands of mountain bikers venture out into the desert north of Tucson to turn laps for 24 straight hours.

Team Topeak-Ergon continued where they left off from last year by taking the win in the 5 Person Co-Ed. This year they did it with only 4 riders. Dave Wiens, Sonya Looney, Yuki Saito, and Jeff Kerkove threw down consistent laps for the entire 24 hours to take the win by 1 lap.

In the other racing categories, Ergon sponsored riders rode some impressive efforts to take most of the top podium spots. Those results include:

Evan Plews: Solo Men winner

Sarah Kaufmann: Solo Women winner

DeJay Birtch: Solo men SS winner

Lynda Wallenfels: Solo women SS winner

Rebecca Tomaszewski: Solo women SS 2nd place

Sean Sullivan: Solo Men SS 2nd place

Todd Carpenter: 5th place Solo men

ERGON USA IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE ERGON OUTDOOR

Following the success of the Ergon Bike packs, Ergon USA is proud to announce that the Ergon Outdoor BA1 and BA3 packs are now available to retailers and customers in North America.

No-one likes carrying a backpack, but it is a simple necessity. A backpack traditionally limits your freedom of movement in all physical activities. Its weight has a bio-mechanical effect on the skeleton and muscles which leads to faster fatigue. As you move, the effect of the load on your body is greater than when you are static. The more active that you are, the more effect this weight has and the more you must compensate.

Traditional backpack manufacturers have paid little attention to this. Low to mid capacity daypacks, touring packs and sports packs use an ancient and practically never revised design. It fails to take into account the influence on comfort that dynamic movements have.

Ergon has developed ergonomically optimized backpacks for active people. Based on a number of in depth studies Ergon has produced a completely new, revolutionary carrying system which puts 80% of the load to the hips near the body‘s center of gravity. The shoulders are almost unburdened, thanks to the flexible yet stable frame. The Flink® ball joint provides natural upper body freedom of movement by isolating the load from the body. This allows for optimal freedom of movement, while providing relief for the shoulder muscles. Using this system Ergon backpacks offer a previously unknown level of carrying comfort.
