Mount Snow Releases Event Roster for Mountain Bike Festival

Something for the youngest beginner to the oldest pro and everyone in between

DOVER, Vt. - July 13, 2009 - In addition to racing, more than 50 events for all ages and abilities crowd the schedule for the inaugural Mount Snow Mountain Bike Festival. Thrill seekers can test the law of gravity or take a dive on the Slip ‘N Slide while competitors can flaunt their prowess in the Bicycle Limbo, Skid Contest, Tire Toss, or on the single-track, where both amateurs and pros can see who’s really the best in the East. Skills clinics and kids’ activities for the next generation of off-road enthusiasts are interspersed with more than a dozen planned rides, ranging from beginner to expert. Darkness provides ambience and organizers have added movies, fireworks, and live music to the festival’s “after hours” atmosphere. This year’s festival plus the US Kenda Cup East, USA Cycling’s Pro XCT tour presented by Sho-Air, the Kenda Downhill Series, and the Trek Women’s Triathlon Series will be held at Vermont’s Mount Snow on August 7-9.

“When coming up with this activity schedule, we focused on there being something for everyone,” said Vinnie Lewis, Mount Snow’s events and public relations manager. “Whether you are an avid biker or a family looking for something fun to do on a weekend, we feel there is enough to keep everyone entertained.”

Starting Friday morning, August 7, at 8 a.m., event-goers can charge into a weekend loaded with riding and mixed with entertainment, challenge, and social mingling. Organizers have taken extra care to design activities especially for kids, like a haystack dive, bicycle arts and crafts, a sticker ride, movie time, and a S’Mores party. The Kids’ Zone will be the place for our little people to try their skills and gain new ones or, they can just hit the single-track for either the Teach Your Child to Ride clinic or the Parent & Child ride.

If your body is thrashed and all your energy spent, let Jeff Lenosky do the work and entertain you with his signature brand of trials stunts. Later on, roll into the expo for a live band concert, and after that, fireworks.

The festival expo - in conjunction with Racer Row - will be open throughout each day for people wandering about in search of ways to improve their ride through the savvy offerings by exhibitors like Kenda, Specialized, Gary Fisher, Subaru, Sho-Air, Princeton Tec, Longs Cycle, Jamis, Giant, and Fox Racing Shox.

Of course with all that riding, food and drink matter so Mount Snow guessed that participants might value offerings from burgers to quesadillas to steak sandwiches. To many riders, beer matters too and, given Vermont’s reputation for tasty local brews, Long Trail Ale and Magic Hat should quench any dissent about a limited beer selection.

Mother Nature may have bullied the East Coast with more wet weather this year than usual but Mount Snow’s trail care crew, along with the U.S. Forest Service, has carefully sculpted sustainable trails that shed water with the least amount of erosion. Unlike past regional mountain bike festivals, where the trail system and venue would have to rise up out of virtually nothing in the days prior to the event, Mount Snow’s trail system has been thoughtfully designed and constructed over time with you, the mountain biker, in mind.

Parking for the festival is a modest $10 per day, activities are free. Camping will be offered or lodging is available via Mount Snow’s website. For more information, go to www.mountsnow.com.
