Sci’con S-Case saddlebag

Sci’con Technical Bags is an Italian company that specializes in bike transportation and sports bags. These include such offerings as bicycle travel bags (hard and soft cases for traveling with your bike), wheel bags, backpacks, saddlebags, and duffel bags. Most of their products are oriented towards the road cyclist, but products such as the saddlebags can be used by any category of biker. They have an array of saddlebags with interesting designs and graphics, but their latest model is the S-Case.

Now, if you’re like me, you probably don’t think about a product like a saddlebag much. When spending your hard earned money, it’s natural to concentrate on sexy new parts for your ride like a new fork or a new set of wheels. Saddlebags? Not so sexy….until now.

The Sci’con S-Case continues that long standing Italian tradition of making products that looks sleek and high tech. No small feat for a mundane product like a bag that sits under your seat and holds tools.

The S-Case is made of ballistic nylon and has a self contained rain cover, reflective zipper, and separated compartments inside. It comes in two sizes (390cc or 590cc) but the small size is really small. You’d be hard pressed to fit more than a road tire sized tube and two tire levers. The small will definitely not fit a mountain bike tube. The large size will hold a mountain bike tube and levers, but not much more. Although it probably wouldn’t look as sleek and aerodynamic, a slightly larger version would be handy. The real beauty to this product lies in it’s award winning Roller System ™.

Roller System ™

The Roller System ™ allows you to quickly and easily remove the saddlebag from it’s quick release mount under the saddle. The mount installs without any tools, and the saddlebag snaps in very securely. I didn’t hesitate to carry my keys in this pack. Speaking of keys, if you are the kind that carrys a single key, there is a little netting like compartment inside the pack that holds the key (or other small, flat item) securely in place. With an additional mount, you can easily use one saddlebag with different bikes.

Conclusion

The S-Case from Sci’con is a solid product that looks good on your bike and is very useful and easy to use. If you are a pack rat, and don’t like to stuff your jerseys and don’t wear a hydration pack, you might find yourself wishing for a slightly larger size.

Value Rating:

4 out of 5 Stars - $36.00 is a lot to pay for a saddlebag that doesn’t come with any tools or supplies in it. But the exchange rate (remember: Sci’con is an Italian company) may have something to do with this.
