CLAIRE BUCHAR WINS FIRST PLACE IN THIRD ANNUAL WOMENZWORX

Nychka and Buchar split the $1,000 prize after riding the “Boneyard on Steroids” at The Gala

WHISTLER, BC, August 11, 2009 – It was survival of the fittest today as ladies endured a full day of riding in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park at the third annual WomenzWorx event presented by Sombrio Girl; proving once again, that girls can hold their own in the Bike Park. The event included two open competitions and one invitational called The Gala, which took place in the legendary Boneyard Slopestyle course.

“The event went really well. The girls have progressed immensely from last year. We were impressed and we had a lot of fun as well, which is always important.” says Katrina Strand, professional mountain biker and Womenzworx co-founder. “We were really happy to incorporate the The Gala slopestyle event into the programming because it gave us chance to showcase the skills that the girls have. We were there in the Boneyard riding the same features as the boys, which is great exposure for these ladies.”

In the true nature of what WomenzWorx is all about, an exhausted Claire Buchar and limping Stephanie Nychka shared the $1,000 grand prize for The Gala Slopestyle event.

Lance Mcdermott Flips His Way To Podium At Crankworx Slopestyle

Whistler, BC, August 17, 2008 — SCOTT Progressive rider Lance McDermott earned a silver medal at the 2008 Crankworx Slopestyle contest with an impressive display of flip mastery. McDermott took second place by only a half point deficit to winner Andreu Locondeguy, who crashed in his first three attempts at pulling off a double back flip off the first booter, but pulled it together in his final run to impress the judges.

McDermott had a very solid qualifying round, stomping a huge front flip off the big dirt jump mid-course, something he continued to land throughout the contest. McDermott also nailed a flared back flip off the Kokanee drop in qualifying, but stepped up to a tremendous crowd pleasing back flip on-front flip off the final stunt. The crowd went wild and could barely get their heads around what just happened. No one has ever pulled a front flip off the final step down, and McDermott pulled three in his final run alone. “I only had a split second after flipping onto the box to brake check and then flip the other way,” said McDermott. “I have never tried to front flip off a step down, it felt awesome to land that in front of the huge crowd at Crankworx. I am going to build a step down at home to practice on now, so I can have more tricks locked up when I come back.”

Crankworx 2008 (Version 5.0)

Spending the week up here with CBX and riding with a bunch of good friends.Friday got a little park time in after working most of the day. Conditions were beautiful and they were setting up the village and the boneyard is getting pimped.

eb_image02.jpg

Saturday, it rained a big chunk of the day, so we watched some bike pron and hung out for a bit. Whafe has a new Nicolai (look at the pics over in the Nicolai forum if you have a drool rag) and was chompin’ at the bit to get out for a spin on it and he needed to get some laps on the Garbo DH course, so he talked Muttonchops and me into getting out for some laps. The top was MUCKY and super sketch……but it was gonna be a fun race for sure. After, we hooked up with MattPatt and Goose to watch some dual slalom action.

Rachel Atherton. She ended up getting beat by Anneke Beerten (sp?) who might have one of the best gate starts I’ve ever seen.

( Cedric and Dan Atherton. Cedric won this matchup.)

(JD Swanguen and Sam Hill. JD ended up winning the whole thing and really put on a cornering clinic.)
