Huntington Beach, CA (April 30, 2009) – With its fresh new look, new owner and a stable of top
sponsored athletes, SDG COMPONENTS rolled into the Sea Otter Classic with lofty expectations and
came away with phenomenal feedback and several podium spots. Opting to partner with Northern
California’s anchor retailer - RideSFO (rideSFO.com) – new president Tyler Anspach and his longtime
lieutenant, Chris Han, used the RideSFO booth as their base camp. Heavy consumer traffic, a DJ
and a cloudless blue sky made for a solid weekend for the globe’s premier saddle brand.
“Feedback regarding the new logo was tremendous both from the trade and consumers alike,” said
Anspach. “Between unveiling the updated logo and our sponsored athletes’ performance, the weekend
couldn’t have been better!”
After eight years with SDG USA, Anspach acquired the brand last month, formed SDG COMPONENTS
and continues to build on the heritage and brand equity that has been synonymous with the iconic
saddle maker for the past 14 years. The Sea Otter Classic offered a natural backdrop for Anspach to
convey his ‘new day’ mantra to the bicycle industry. He has moved quickly to freshen up the logo,
adding an avatar-like ‘bug.’
“We’ll continue build on the authenticity of the SDG brand, while making some modifications to the
overall look and feel as well,” Anspach said. “There’s no need to reinvent the wheel – but simply refine
and add consistency to our go-to-market strategy.”

“People might think they are doing all they can by having a recycling bin at home, but at events, they just don’t make the extra effort,” said Frank Yohannan, president and CEO of the Sea Otter Classic. “This program will make recycling fun–competitive even–and educate our attendees about how easy it is to utilize the special recycling bins that we set up all over the venue.”

After much hard work, 2008 turned out to be an incredibly successful year for IMBA California, including securing the Governor’s veto of a bill aimed to expand Wilderness in state parks, thus closing trails to mountain bikes. Another significant victory came in the form of a $600K appropriation from Congress to expand the purpose-built mountain bike trails in the King Range of northern California.

We’re just two months out from some of the best racing in the states at Sea Otter Classic. Time to start honing your training to prepare for your specific race or races. Are you going for the road race featuring the classic Ford Ord loop and mountain top finish or a circuit race on the Leguna Seca Raceway? Whatever your race, one of the best ways to gauge your training is with power. Power meters don’t come cheap, but if you truly want to train like a pro, it could pay off down the road.

In a recent action alert, IMBA asks all riders and mountain bikers to make urgent comments to the U.S. National Park Service regarding a proposed rule change which will make it easier for parks to open trails for mountain biking. IMBA urges cyclists and mountain bikers to register comments in support of the rule change. IMBA has been asking for this change since the 1990s. We’re now in a 60-day
