New One-Deal-at-a-Time retail site serves up bikes and bike gear for more than 50% off retail

PARK CITY, Utah (June 3, 2007) – You ride. You love bikes. You don’t just love bikes, you LOVE love bikes. New Bike Day, for you, is better than Christmas, better than money, better than sex. You own your car, but you’re still making payments on your wheel set. You’d seriously consider trading your firstborn for the best cranks on the market. You dedicate at least half your paycheck each year to all things bike-that is, until now. Because now, there’s Chainlove.com.

Chainlove.com is a retail site that sells super high-end bikes and bike gear, one item at a time, at ridiculously marked-down prices (at least 50% below retail). Every night at midnight (MST) the Chainlove crew drops one new, insanely discounted deal on the site. As soon as that deal sells out, a new item hits the deck and goes till it’s gone, and then another, and another and…you get the picture.

Chainlove is the bike-aholic’s version of Backcountry.com’s two hugely successful one-deal-at-a-time (ODAT) sites, SteepandCheap.com and WhiskeyMilitia.com. Like its brothers, Chainlove highlights the one item up for sale with a large product photo, detailed specs and the slashed price. Since each deal is only featured until it sells out, you can track the remaining availability and the sell-through rate as well – so you always know how fast you need to act before the deal is done.

To make sure you don’t miss anything and to instantly find out when the next mind-blowing steal is posted, you can sign up for a slew of alerts – desktop, browser, IM bots and RSS. Plus, daily emails keep you tuned to what’s going down on the site.

ODAT sites are not for browsers, or even “shoppers” for that matter. ODAT sites are for hard-core gear addicts who know what they want, can recognize a screamin’ deal, and can grab it before it’s gone. So even though Chainlove doesn’t have all the goods all the time, with brands like Pinarello, Shimano, Easton, Blackburn, Campagnolo, Sidi, FOX Racing, Zoic, and more in the lineup, you’re sure to score what you crave.
Chainlove’s launch is stacked with outrageous gear. Some cherry picks to look for early in the first week include:

  • Pinarello F3:13 Ultegra Complete Road Bike
  • Shimano Saint Hydraulic Disc Brakes
  • Easton EC90 Pro Road Bike Handlebars
  • Pearl Izumi Women’s Symphony Bike Jersey
  • Castelli Men’s Team Italia Track Jacket
  • Northwave Aerator Race Shoes
  • Hutchinson Spider Air Light Tires
  • Fi’zi:k Arione Carbon TI Bike Saddle
  • Continental Sprinter Tubular Tire

(You have to check the site for the prices!)

Chainlove vendors dig the ODAT model because the one-deal-at-a-time set-up moves their quality products without harming brand equity. The limited-time availability forces people to act, so the gear sells lightening fast. This keeps the product pipes clear and reduces retail backup and overstock.

“Chainlove is for bike junkies,” said John Thomas, Manager of the Bike Merchandise Division at Backcountry.com. “Our goal is to pass along killer deals to obsessive compulsive bike-ophiles – people whose happiness is directly related to whether or not they ride on any given day, people who spend inordinate amounts of cash on bike gear, but who shouldn’t. Really, when you think about it, these huge discounts are saving marriages and feeding children, and that, in our book, is a good thing.”

Wow, I love this site, I’m so addicted to steep and cheap and whiskey militia already, I spend so much money on these things. Don’t go to the site if you don’t want to spend money. It sucks you into buying things.

  • Peencho says:

Wow, saw the list for the first week. Are they ever going to have anything good up for sale?

  • J says:

Lying, deceitful, bastards. The prices are OK, but dealing the staff is like pulling teeth. Knowing what I know now about the bait and switch that they pull, I would rather pay more money to better people.
PS you can find the prices this cheap other places. Screw them.
