Crank Brothers showed their new Iodine 29 Wheels at the Sea Otter Classic. They have been making the XC/Race 29er Cobalt wheels for a while now, but the Iodine 29 is their first All Mountain big hoops.
The Iodine comes in two model levels, the Iodine 2 29 and the Iodine 3 29 (no 11 model planned at this time). The 3 is a lighter, more dressed up version of the 2 and features dual machined surface with dual anodization, alloy freehub body and black anodized Sapim spokes with hollowed matching pins. The Iodine 3 29 weight ranges from 1856 to 1904 grams (per set) depending on axle configuration and the rim is 6061 T-6 alloy, welded joints and the rim is 21mm wide. The MSRP of the Iodine 3 29 is $950.
The Iodine 2 29 will sell for $650 a set and features 142 or 135mm quick release (rear) and 20mm or 15mm standard (front) (9mm end caps also available). The overall construction is the same, but again, the 3 is lighter and fancier. The Iodine 2 29 weight ranges from 1932 to 1972 grams (per set) depending on the axle configuration and the rim is 6061 T-6 alloy, welded joints with a rim width of 21mm.
These are not yet on Crank Brothers website, but should be hitting bike shops in another couple of weeks.
