(Escondido, California) March 29, 2011 – The ‘DRD X-Fusion Intense’ factory mountain bike team kicked off their season with tremendous success a little early this year at the 2011 Fontana City National!  With plans of taking the season by storm in just a few short weeks at the Port Angeles Pro GRT, several of our team riders, Jason Memmelaar, Brad King & Austin Warren wanted to get a good race on their brand new Intense M9 factory bikes before the season starts!

With recent rainstorms, the weather cooperated fairly reasonably over the weekend, albeit not your typical southern California weather.  Although the skies were gray &rain at times, riders were greeted with a new downhill track and some great riding conditions!

Being such a big event combined with cross country, short track, 4x and downhill racing (as it should be), team riders spent a lot of time greeting fans at the team pit and handing out product samples from two new team sponsors! ARMA Energy snacks (www.armaenergysnx.com), as well as gromBomb (www.drinkgrombomb) healthy rehydration drinks!

On race day, there was a vibe in the pit that made it feel like you knew something good was going to happen!  Not only was the day “good”, it was out of control!!!   With the junior cat 1 (expert) division headed out first, We all scattered throughout the course to cheer on our sole junior rider, Austin Warren, to victory.  The boy must have said something right, because Austin decimated the field by 4 seconds!  His time would have placed him 14th in the Pro men’s division!

“I had a great ride,” said Austin Warren.  “Killed it!   It was a fun track, fun bike, and just had a great time!  It’s gonna be my first year on the tour, & I’m glad to have it start out so well!  Stoked on the new DRD X-Fusion Intense M9!  Can’t wait to get the season goin!”

With the Pro field starting soon after it was only a matter of time until we saw two of our elite riders, Brad King & Jason Memmelaar take the course.  Both Jason & Brad were having great runs in practice & felt good for finals.  Unfortunately for Brad, a mechanical sent his hopes for a good finish out of the picture for the weekend.

“I was on a great run” said Brad.  “Based on my previous result at the Fontana Winter Series races and how great I felt on the Intense M9, I knew I had a top 10 in the bag.  But after hitting something up top and having a mechanical, my day was done.  I’m disappointed, but I’m still super pumped on getting to the Port Angeles Pro GRT!  I know I’m gonna kill it there!”

Being one of the last riders to take the course, Jason Memmelaar had his work cut out for him.  The course deteriorated extremely fast as it began to dry, but was still running fast!  Luckily Jason had been on a great training program out in Colorado and had the strength & horsepower to get the job done!  When Jason rocketed across the line, he was greeted with cheers as he finished 3rd, beating a number of fast national & world cup racers!

Jason Memmelaar was excited on his finish stating, “Pretty pumped on my finish, as I’ve only been on the bike for three days!  The course was sick!  X-Fusion suspension just made the bike hook up the whole day!”
