Unique S-Works Epic + Great Charity = Win/Win

Kayamandi, South Africa—World Champions and teammates Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander are racing the 2012 Absa Cape Epic this week on custom Specialized S-Works Epic 29 bikes — and two lucky mountain bikers will end up owning them while supporting Songo, a fantastic South African children’s charity. Songo is auctioning the two bikes of the reigning Cape Epic Champions.

Made specifically for the race, the Epic bikes are painted in the colors of Songo, a social development program that provides sport and recreational activities to South African children. While providing kids a safe place to grow and learn, Songo also teaches accountability and responsibility while providing kids the tools to achieve their goals.

Sauser and Stander’s bikes are currently being auctioned off — with bidding closing at the end of the race on April 1. All proceeds will go to the Foundation, which Sauser helped start four years ago.

“Every cent is going to the charity, and the kids are going to feel a difference and it’s going to put a big smile on their faces,” Sauser said.

Watching the development of these kids over the last four years has touched Sauser profoundly, he said.

“One year ago a kid named Sipho Madolo came up to me and said he wanted to stand next to me on the podium at the Epic, and now he and his team is leading the development category!” Sauser said. “For him a huge dream came true, and he actually texted me a week ago saying how I changed his life and he doesn’t think about empty cupboards or guns anymore.”

Sauser and Stander are currently leading the Cape Epic, racing as 36One-Songo-Specialized.

“This auction is going towards such a good cause, and it’s a chance of a lifetime to own something so special that stands for something so powerful,” Stander said.
The S-Works Epic 29 bikes are truly unique. Sauser rides a Large and Stander rides a Medium. Both are built up with Roval Control SL 29 wheels, a Rockshox/Specialized SID Brain fork a Fox/Specialized rear shock and SRAM XX components.
