HuckNroll.com Signs Freeride Phenom Mike Hopkins, XC Champ Rebecca Rusch to Team
One hucks. One rolls. Both go big.
PARK CITY, UTAH (AUG. 17, 2010)—When building a pro team to represent an online mountain bike store that spans the entire spectrum of mountain biking, the best way to go is big. HuckNroll.com is doing just that by signing freeride phenom, Mike Hopkins, and marathon cross-country star, Rebecca Rusch, as the first members of its team.
Rebecca Rusch, whose home turf is the silky singletrack around Ketchum, Idaho, is the three-time World 24 Hour Champion (’07, ’08, and ’09) as well as the two-time and reigning Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race champion. Last weekend, Rebecca took top female honors at Leadville with a time of 7 hours, 47 minutes, 35 seconds, smashing her time from last year by nearly 30 minutes and breaking the course record – set in 1997 – by 11 minutes.
Then there’s Mike Hopkins. The pro freerider is a Rossland, B.C. native who has been earning his wings with starring roles in Kranked 7 and the recently released and widely praised Life Cycles movie, produced by Stance Films, which will debut at Interbike. Hopkins is also a freeskier and is also a new addition to the ski team of Backcountry.com, HuckNroll.com’s sister site.
Mike and Rebecca are not only joining the HuckNroll.com pro team, they’re also joining the online retailer’s online bike community — the High Rollers — providing gear reviews and answering the community members’ questions about bikes, gear, and tactics.
“Rebecca is a world-class athlete who has decided to dedicate her talents to endurance mountain bike racing, which is great for the sport and great for HuckNroll.com,” said Jon Atencio, HuckNroll.com’s Team Wrangler. “And Mike is an incredibly talented biker and skier. We are stoked to have him representing us for both HuckNroll and Backcountry.com.”
