Hydros Filtering Water Bottle

Every so often, an item comes across my desk that isn’t directly a mountain bike product specifically, but may be of interest to the general outdoor person. The Hydros Filtering Water Bottle is one of those products. It is targeted towards every day use for the commuter, camper, hiker or gym goer. It isn’t made to fit a bicycle bottle cage, but can be carried easily with the handy carry loop.

The unique feature of the Hydros bottle is that it has a built in filtration unit. Similar to an in home water filter (like a Brita), the Hydros uses a charcoal filter that is designed to reduce chlorine, chloramine and particulates to “improve the taste and quality of potable tap water.” It is dishwasher safe, BPA free and best of all it’s made right here in America!

The 16 ounce Hydros bottle comes in 5 colors (blue, pink, black, green, orange) and the MSRP is $27.99. Included in that cost, part of the proceeds from each purchase helps fund sustainable water infastructure projects across the globe for developing countries in need (like the current project in Gundom, Cameroon). So, not only are you buying a cool filtering bottle, you are also helping provide clean water sources to people in need. The other aspect of using the Hydros bottle vs. drinking bottled water is that you will GREATLY reduce the environmental impact of all those plastic bottles. According to Hydros, 38 billion disposable plastic water bottles find their way into landfills each year.

Currently, the Hydros bottle is available through select independent organic food markets and also through their website. You can also sign up for email reminders to help you remember when it’s time to change the filters. Hydros – “hydrate responsibly”

That is embarrassing and horrible. Especially in the U.S where potable water is almost everywhere! The concept is not new but I like their responsible approach. I’m buying a few for Christmas this year. These are also great for indoor use…work, home, school, in the car, etc. Drink more water!
