Interbike and Bikes Belong Invest $50,000 to Enhance Bicycling in Las Vegas

Friday September 18th, 2009 at 1:58 PM
Posted by: Gregg

LAS VEGAS - Sep. 18, 2009 - Bikes Belong, the national coalition of bike-industry retailers and suppliers, and Interbike, the industry’s annual tradeshow, will invest more than $50,000 during the next two years to improve bicycling conditions in Las Vegas-the show’s host city. To launch the first of this three-phase project, Interbike and Bikes Belong awarded a grant of $10,000 to the City of Las Vegas to help build 3.2 miles of new bike lanes in Ward 5. The Las Vegas Regional Transportation Commission matched the bike industry’s contribution.

The bike-lanes project was spearheaded by the Ward 5 Bicycle Coalition-a committee of community leaders and representatives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, local schools, recreation centers, and the Las Vegas Bike Club. This committed group of cycling supporters will host bike rodeos and safety events to promote the new lanes.

In phase two, slated for the first half of 2010, Bikes Belong and Interbike will donate trip counters called Freikometers to several Las Vegas elementary schools. These solar-powered Freikometers, which tally bike rides and walks to school, are the backbone technology of the Freiker (Frequent Biker) program. Part of the growing national Safe Routes to School movement (labeled Suggested Routes to School in the city of Las Vegas), Freiker helps to quantify and celebrate students who arrive at school under their own power, encouraging active, healthy transportation.

Kona and IMBA Fundraising Raffle at Interbike

Thursday September 17th, 2009 at 10:04 AM
Posted by: Gregg

KONAWORLD - Kona Bicycles has a cool new bike to show off. The Cadabra is a bike that can intuitively handle what you throw at it, from steep, technical ascents to rugged descents and everything in between. Some might even say it’s magic… Who else best to promote this bike with than IMBA, who intuitively builds and maintains trails that have all the features the Cadabra craves?

Last year at Interbike, Kona Bicycle Company and IMBA raffled off a $2,299 2009 Coilair, and raised $8,200 and gained 140 new or renewed IMBA memberships. This year Kona and IMBA have no intention of being outdone, and intend to raise more money, gain more memberships and raffle off a newer, cooler 2010 Kona Cadabra, worth $2,799.

Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show is Back for Second Year at Interbike 2009

Thursday August 27th, 2009 at 2:34 PM
Posted by: Gregg

Interbike features urban cycling by expanding the Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show and moving it from the ballroom to a larger space on the main show floor

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - Aug. 26, 2009 - Interbike, producers of North America’s largest bicycle industry trade shows, will host the second annual Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show, presented by Giant Bicycles, at Interbike 2009 on the show floor, Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 p.m.

“Interbike uses the Urban Legend Fashion Show to showcase the industry’s growing enthusiasm for urban cycling and the exciting products that the segment supports,” said Rich Kelly, Interbike marketing manager. “As with all of the products exhibited at Interbike, urban cycling gear and apparel is best appreciated in action.”

Instead of a traditional catwalk, a road loop surrounded by bicycle-inspired art will be laid out on the main show floor in hall D of the Sands Expo Center. The Urban Legend audience will gather in and around the loop while models ride through it. The innovative layout allows attendees “front-row seats” to watch the models show off the function and fashion of urban bikes and cycling apparel.

“We loved what Interbike did with the fashion show last year and thought sponsoring it this year would be a great way for Giant to highlight its new lifestyle products,” said Elysa Walk, general manager of Giant Bicycles. “There is a lifestyle boom taking place in the consumer market and Giant wants to be part of it.”

New Tailwind eBike from Schwinn utilizes Toshiba’s Super Charge ion Battery (SCiB) technology to deliver an industry-leading 30-minute recharge time (through a standard residential electrical outlet), one-eighth (1/8th) the time of competing electric bikes (or less), setting a new standard for the electric bike industry

BETHEL, Conn. - Sept. 24, 2008 - Schwinn Bicycles, America’s most recognized bicycle brand, today unveiled the Tailwind electric bike to bicycle dealers attending the annual Interbike International Bicycle Expo, the largest bicycle trade industry event in North America. Schwinn Bicycles is part of the Cannondale Sports Group Division of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B, DII.A).

The Tailwind will also be showcased tonight from 6 to 9:30 p.m. (EDT) at the ShowStoppers media-only reception being held at the Millennium Hotel on Times Square in New York City at 44th and Broadway.

“The Tailwind sets a new standard of excellence in the eBike industry,” said Bruno Maier, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Cannondale Sports Group. “Through our new cooperation with Toshiba Corporation, the Tailwind is powered by the world’s most innovative and fastest charging battery, a battery that can be recharged in 30 minutes through a standard electrical outlet (or as little as five minutes through a commercial charger) versus the industry standard of four hours or more. We’re also debuting an entirely new soft goods line at Interbike 2008 as well as our brand new 2009 Protection line. Think bombproof Race Face armour with a whole new look and some well thought out design changes for even better functionality.

Team riders will of course be on hand to sign a special Interbike edition Race Face sticker and give away some new product (they’ll sign product and just about anything else you ask them to). Make sure you’re at booth 631 at 1pm Wednesday afternoon to meet the boys and get your stickers and schwag!

On hand will be Darren Berrecloth, Paul Basagoitia, Wade Simmons, Brett Tippie, Ryan Berrecloth and John Cowan to name a few! These guys always have some killer shredding tales to tell and of course look forward to meeting the fans at the big Interbike shmooze fest.

Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France champion, will hold a press conference at Interbike, North America’s largest cycling trade show.

WHEN:
Thursday, September 25 at 9:00 a.m. in conjunction with the Interbike International Bicycle Expo. (Press confrence is for working media only).

The following day at the Interbike press conference, Armstrong will detail plans for his 2009 return to professional cycling, including team, partial schedule and development program.

In a statement released earlier this month by Lance announcing his plans to return to the road, he said, “I am happy to announce that after talking with my children, my family and my closest friends, I have decided to return to professional cycling in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden. This year alone, nearly eight million people will die of cancer worldwide. Millions more will suffer in isolation, victims not only of the disease but of social stigma. After the passage of Proposition 15 in Texas, a $3 billion investment in the fight against cancer which is helping to make this disease part of the national dialogue in America, it’s now time to address cancer on a global level.”

Tomac Launches New Site

Saturday September 20th, 2008 at 1:55 PM
Posted by: Gregg

For Immediate Release

Just in time for the Interbike Trade Show, Tomac has launched an entirely new website. Designed to be more user-friendly and also visually more appealing, the site uses state of the art web design to drive traffic to the site.

When choosing an agency to develop the site, Tomac looked north to Patent Pending Ideas, a Whistler B.C. company with deep roots in mountain biking. “We are based right in Whistler, and we can see the bike park from our windows, so getting out for a mid-day ride is standard practice around here,” says Chris Armstrong, project manager at Patent Pending Ideas.

“We wanted to make something special for Tomac,” continues Armstrong. “Tomac already had a great foundation to work with, so the rest of the changes and additions where quite simple to do. We moved away from a flash based website into a web 2.0 CSS styled site that loads faster, is completely index-able by the search engines and will be much easier to make changes to moving forward.”

“Getting a greater understanding of the Tomac customer was a driving factor for the changes.“ says Tomac owner Joel Smith. “The site is everything we wanted and was half the work for me. Chris knows bikes and knows web sites, so he just took the ball and ran with it. I told him we wanted a new site, and a few weeks later it was completed, simple as that.”

The next step with the site is launching multi-language micro sites for our European customers. “We had a great dealer network established in Europe and making our content available to them in their native language is a top priority,” says Smith.

Tomac Bikes is headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Tomac Bikes strives for high performance, innovation, and superior products. www.tomac.com

Hutchinson Tires Leading Road, Mountain and Urban Markets

Thursday September 18th, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Posted by: Gregg

Did You Know That All US Postal/Discovery TdF Victories Were on Hutchinson?

Las Vegas, NV - September 22, 2008 - - Hutchinson, the tire of choice for champions in multiple disciplines of cycling, is showing its complete line of products at the Interbike Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, from September 22nd to the 26th in booth 3375.

With numerous road and mountain bike championships under its top riders’ belts, including current 2-time Olympic Mountain Bike Champion Julien Absalon, Hutchinson is earning the top slot in Road, Mountain and Urban tire categories.

THE ROAD TUBELESS REVOLUTION HAS BEGUN

After the long string of Tour de France Victories under the US Postal/Discovery Teams of ‘99-’05, Hutchinson concentrated on developing the ultimate technology for clincher tires. The end result was a collaboration with Shimano that resulted in the development of Road Tubeless wheels and tires. Tests from our customers show a 30% decrease in rolling resistance, incredible flat resistance, and the ability to ride at much lower pressures than normal, resulting in significant increases in comfort and speed.

Shimano, Campagnolo, Fulcrum, Roval, and A-Class have already created Road Tubeless wheelsets, and bike companies including Orbea, Ridley, Ibis, Independent Fabrications, Rocky Mountain, DeSalvo, Van Dessel, Time, Marin, and more will be displaying bikes and/or providing them for test rides at the Outdoor Demo and indoor show that feature Road Tubeless wheels and tires.

Many of those bikes will be at the front of the Hutchinson Road Tubeless Tour de Lake Mead Industry ride on Tuesday morning of the show.

THE FIRST DOUBLE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL MOUNTAIN BIKER

As on the Road side of things, Hutchinson continues to receive accolades and victories through World Class riders on World Class equipment. Julien Absalon once again took Olympic Gold on his Hutchinson-equipped machine. New tires and technologies are raising the bar that Hutchinson sets for the rest of the cycling world to follow.

New for 2009 is the COBRA - a racing tire with a fast-rolling center section and corner-eating side knobs. Technological features include the revolutionary Tubeless Ready system that creates a tubeless tire utilizing Fast’Air sealant, for the ultimate in rolling speed, traction, comfort and flat resistance.

Multiple rebound rubber compounds are available in Low, Medium and High formulations for perfect performance in whatever condition you have in front of you. HardSkin technology brings a reinforcement to the casing to prohibit perforations and cuts and provide additional support to your ride.

NEXT STOP - URBAN DOMINANCE
Next up for Hutchinson is the domination of the urban cycling market. On the high-end, the INTENSIVE tire receives a new size at 700×25c, providing more volume for urban speed cyclists, including messengers and fixie freaks. The Intensives also features Kevlar protection throughout, to resist direct punctures from the road, and also get’s HardSkin technology borrowed from our mountain bike tires for ultimate urban warfare.
Tires on the sportier side of the business, including the URBAN TOUR and TOP SLICK, receive a Protect’Air layer of anti-flat matter that routinely puts up with tacks, glass, potholes and other dangerous elements that urban cyclists deal with everyday. Come by the Hutchinson booth at Interbike to see the new movie made by Urban Cycling Film Director Daniel Leeb. We think you’ll be impressed.

About Hutchinson
Hiram Hutchinson, an American expatriate, founded Hutchinson in France in 1853 and began producing bicycle tires in 1890. Starting with the first of Louison Bobet’s three Tour de France victories in 1951, legends from Jacques Anquetil to Anne-Caroline Chausson, Nicolas Vouilloz, the Seven-Time Tour de France winning Postal/Discovery Team and current Olympic and multi-time World Champion Julien Absalon have proven the superiority of Hutchinson tire technology.

iBert Safe-T-Seat Announces Sponsorship Agreement with David “Tinker” Juarez

Thursday September 11th, 2008 at 11:28 AM
Posted by: Gregg

Two-time Olympian and Mountain Bike Hall of Famer to make special appearance at iBert Interbike Booth #4406

RIVERTON, Utah - September 15, 2008 - iBert Inc., manufacturer of the front-mounted bicycle safe-T-seat, today announced a sponsorship agreement with world and national mountain bike endurance champion, two-time Olympian and Mountain Bike Hall of Famer, David “Tinker” Juarez.

As part of the sponsorship agreement, Juarez will be at the Interbike iBert booth (#4406) on Wednesday, September 24, at 11:30 a.m. for autographs and interviews.

The sponsorship started back in April 2008 after Juarez contacted iBert about getting a safe-T-seat to use while on rides with his son, Joshua. After using the bike on multiple family rides and loving it, Juarez signed an official sponsorship with iBert.

“Tinker and his family loved the safe-T-seat from the very first time they used it,” said Kelly Eissinger, president of iBert and developer of the safe-T-seat. “Tinker’s perspective as both a celebrated athlete and a father gives his endorsement of the seat added value.”

The iBert sponsorship agreement also supports Juarez and his partnership with the National Mountain Bike Oktoberfest, a three-day family-oriented mountain bike festival in Davidson, N.C.

“The iBert safe-T-seat makes riding with your kid an experience you can both enjoy,” said Juarez. “Similar to the interaction between a kangaroo and a baby in its pouch, the iBert seat lets me interact with my son during the ride, instead of just towing him around behind.”

Juarez’s wife, Terri Slifko, enjoys using the safe-T-seat as part of her regular training routine.

“Riding with my son, Joshua, is about the only training I can fit in these days,” said Slifko. “I make the most of each ride by finding the hills and working to beat my friends - who aren’t carrying the extra weight - to the top.”

The iBert safe-T-seat is a front-mounted bicycle seat that places the child between the adult rider and the handlebars giving parents improved control over both the child and the bicycle. The safe-T-seat uses a specially designed, easy-to-use attach/detach system that fits most bikes on the market today and is available in bright green.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the iBert safe-T-seat is $94.95 (US). Those interested in finding more information about the safe-T-seat, please visit www.ibertinc.com.

Wednesday September 10th, 2008 at 5:44 PM
Posted by: Gregg

Newport Beach, Calif. (September 10, 2008) TAG Wheels®, the U.S manufacturer of composite bicycle wheels significantly expands its product line to offer cross country, all mountain, and BMX wheels with its stylish tri-spoke models.

The company has built a strong reputation on its popular and reliable FRX5 wheels made for freeride and downhill. Utilizing the same advanced technology the new lighter weight TR3 models offer excellent versatility, a long lifespan and more.

The new 26” TR3 wheels are tough and built to last with a proven shock absorbing hollow formed design and reinforced aluminum rim. The wheels provide a sturdy and responsive ride due to an integrally molded rib inside each spoke and the load-dispersing wheel design. A reliable industry-recognized 4-pawl drive hub provides precision engagement and sealed cartridge bearings make for a smooth ride. The wheels require no truing as the hub is factory aligned and permanently bonded creating an extraordinarily convenient ride for today’s riders.

The TR3 wheels come in both carbon fiber composite and an advanced impact modified composite material. They are available in disc brake and caliper brake models. Plus, riders can personalize wheels by selecting from a range of vibrant colors. In addition the “Molded-In” color process ensures colors won’t chip.

“Our wheels provide long term value in a classic stylish look,” says Mike Thomas V.P of TAG Wheels. “The wheels are extremely easy to use, offer a great ride, and with MSRP starting at just $429 per set our TR3 wheels are affordable for any rider.”

A self-propelled cycling art and fashion show, Interbike’s latest addition brings
the cutting edge of urban cycle culture to life
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - September 10, 2008 - Interbike, producers of North America’s largest bicycle industry trade shows, today announced they have teamed up with Momentum Magazine to produce the first “Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show” at Interbike 2008 on Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
“The Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show will help feature the great gear, bikes and apparel that have been recently introduced for the increasingly important urban and transportation cycling categories,” said Rich Kelly, Interbike’s communication manager. “When we learned of Momentum’s innovative fashion show, which they produced earlier this year, we knew their show had the right mix of style, vibe and utility - all in a fun, unique atmosphere.”
Instead of a traditional catwalk, a road loop will be laid out on the floor of the Venetian’s Ballroom G, while bicycle-inspired artwork is displayed throughout the room. Urban Legend attendees will gather in and around the loop, while models ride among the audience. The innovative layout allows the models to display urban cycling apparel and bikes in action and allows each attendee a front row seat.
“Our team at Momentum produced a similar fashion show on a smaller scale in Vancouver earlier this year, and we jumped at the chance to bring cycling fashion and art to the forefront at Interbike 2008,” said Kohout. “Urban Legend is an awesome addition to the show and provides a huge opportunity for companies to display their gear and bikes for this important and growing category of urban cyclists.”
The Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show will highlight a range of stylish, smart, sexy and professional clothing that fit into everyday life and work great on a bike. Models will be sporting urban and casual cycling wear, not the typical Lycra shorts or jerseys, while riding urban, folding, utilitarian and commuting bikes.
Industry apparel and bicycles handpicked by Momentum Magazine’s Mia Kohout and her team, including gear by Interbike exhibitors such as:

  • Crumpler
  • Dahon
  • Nutcase Helmets
  • Sheila Moon Athletic Apparel
Product submissions for possible inclusion in the Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show are due no later than Friday, September 12. To make a submission, send a lo-res photo and brief description to Mia Kohout at mia@momentumplanet.com. For art submissions, please send an email to Thomas Prehn at thomas@bouldersportsresearch.com.For schedule information about the Urban Legend Fashion and Art Show and other events at the 2008 Interbike International Bicycle Expo, please click here.

Yakima at Interbike 08

YAKIMA ROUNDS OUT BIKE CATEGORY WITH NEW DIRECT TO FACTORY FORK MOUNTED CARRIER AND NEW TRUNK RACK

ForkLift™ and QuickBack™ Ease Installation, Increasing Rack Options for Consumers

BEAVERTON, Ore. (July 15, 2008) – Building upon the success of its re-designed bike hitch line introduced last year, Yakima, an innovator in vehicle racks for boats, bikes, camping, winter sports gear, and cargo boxes, will introduce two new bike mounts for spring ’09, including the ForkLift, its first fork mount product that fits directly to factory racks featuring tool-free installation for the widest range of vehicles. The second rack, QuickBack, a trunk style bike carrier uses Yakima’s new ArchBack™ technology, a unique sliding arch base system enabling consumers to quickly and easily adjust the rack to fit the widest variety of vehicles. Both products will be unveiled at Interbike, September 24-26 in Las Vegas, booth #3935, and will be available at retail beginning early 2009.

“Cycling consumers of all levels will quickly recognize the advantages of these new bike mounts, making a fast escape to the road and trail sweet and easy,” said David Fee, senior director of market and product development for Yakima. “These are best-in-class for function, style and performance.”

ForkLift™
Ideal for road and cross country mountain bikers, the ForkLift directly installs, tool-free, to round, square or factory crossbars out of the box, for fast, easy installation, and a skewer with a one-handed adjustment dial and dual extruded aluminum tray for increased stability and durability. Integrated SKS™ security locks the bike to the ForkLift and also locks the ForkLift to the vehicle for maximum protection. This mount will eventually replace the Viper and SteelHead products, reducing SKUs at retail for a simplified selling experience.

QuickBack™
The QuickBack is designed for consumers who prefer not to put bikes on top of their vehicle or do not own a vehicle with a hitch receiver. Replacing the current premium trunk mount, KingJoe, the QuickBack features Yakima’s proprietary sliding ArchBack™ technology that improves the ease of installation and vehicle fit. The convenient, adjustable ArchBack base and labeled straps provide a “fit and forget” installation while the adjustable arms fit a wide range of bikes. An industry first, the QuickBack will include built-in security, with a steel-reinforced strap that locks the mount to your car, providing the ability to lock the bikes to the rack. Soft, anti-skid feet and hooks provide vehicle stability and protection. An adjustable knob folds down the padded arms when not in use, and a bottle opener at the end of the mount satisfies thirsty riders in need of a post-ride beverage.

YAKIMA STREAMLINES BICYCLE DEALER AND CONSUMER RETAIL EXPERIENCE WITH NEW VERSATILE TOWER AND MULTI-FIT LANDING PAD

RailGrab™ Tower Replaces Six Current Retail SKUs; Landing Pad 11™ Provides Solutions for a Wide Range of Current and Future Vehicles

BEAVERTON, Ore. (July 15, 2008) – Reinforcing its commitment to provide “sweet and easy” vehicle fit solutions for its bicycle consumers and retailers, Yakima, an innovator in vehicle racks for boats, bikes, camping, winter sports gear, and cargo boxes has refined its multi-sport base system solutions, providing consumers new options for carrying bike, boat, snow and cargo products simultaneously. The RailGrab Tower replaces six SKUs, giving dealers a streamlined offering at retail, while providing consumers with a simple product that fits both flush and raised factory side rails. Integrating with Yakima’s Control Tower, the Landing Pad 11 provides a sleek fit by attaching to factory hard-points which exist on many high-end vehicles currently on the market and are the future trend for many auto manufacturers. Both products will be unveiled at Interbike, September 24-26 in Las Vegas, booth #3935, and will be available at retail beginning early 2009.

“These products facilitate easier selling and purchasing decisions for our bicycle retailers and consumers,” said Mike Steck, senior director of customer marketing and sustainability for Yakima. “By reducing the SKU count and increasing the product functionality, we are giving retailers better choices, while enabling consumers to get outdoors quicker, hitting the roads and trails.”

RailGrab Tower
The RailGrab Tower replaces six current SKUs including the LowRider, Locking EZ Rider, LowRider Max and three claws. Consumers with both raised and flush side rails will now be able to fit their vehicles with a single tower. Currently, no other rack provider offers this option without using multiple SKUs. A configurable claw with an integrated tool adjustment raises and lowers the height of the tower to fit the side rail and anchor to the bar to preserve the setting.

Landing Pad 11
The Landing Pad 11 is a multi-fit base enhancing Yakima’s ability to fit the numerous current and future vehicles with factory hard points. In addition, the Landing Pad 11 will also fit premium vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover and Saab not previously on Yakima’s fit list. The Landing Pad 11 is easily installed, fitting directly to the factory hard points and integrating with the Control Tower for enhanced stability, durability and effortless removal when not in use.

YAKIMA REVAMPS CARGO LINE WITH NEW SOLAR TECHNOLOGY AND
RECYCLED COMPONENTS

LoPro SkyBox Features First Self-Activated Solar Light and 80% Recycled Plastic

BEAVERTON, Ore. (July 15, 2008) – Expanding upon its company-wide sustainability initiatives and Planet Payback program, Yakima, an innovator in vehicle racks for boats, bikes, camping, winter sports gear, and cargo boxes, will introduce the Yakima LoPro, a premium low profile SkyBox made of 80% recycled plastic featuring integrated solar light technology that will include the cargo mat and net for easy organization of gear. The integrated, self-activated solar light is the first of its kind in the cargo box category. Yakima will also unveil a new rendition of the classic RocketBox series, also made of 80% recycled plastic. All products will be unveiled at Interbike, September 24-26 in Las Vegas, booth #3935, and will be available at retail beginning early 2009.

“As a leading manufacturer of bike mounts, we are working hard to help pave the way in sustainability for the vehicle rack and cargo categories and will continue to expand upon these initiatives by constantly exploring new technologies and materials,” said Mike Steck, senior director of customer marketing and sustainability for Yakima. “These products give our eco-conscious cycling consumers a more sustainable way to carry gear.”

LoPro SkyBox
The LoPro Skybox is intended for consumers with tall vehicles, low garages and/or those looking for a low profile, space-saving solution. At 15.5 cubic feet, this cargo box, in a new metallic charcoal gray color, embraces the current popular aerodynamic design of the original SkyBox series, but features the SkyLight a solar-powered light manufactured by SolLight of Hood River, Ore., that automatically illuminates the SkyBox when opened for better visibility.

Consumers have enhanced ease of use and security with the SuperLatch™, a new ergonomic handle making its debut in the new LoPro SkyBox. In alignment with its Skybox Series, the LoPro includes the stiffest lid in the cargo box category, improving performance, security and durability. The LoPro features quick-install hardware with a universal fit on all crossbars and a pad to protect the base of the cargo box and the gear inside. Both the LoPro and SkyBox Pro series will now come with an integrated cargo mat and net for better gear security.

RocketBox 11, 15s and 16
This series of cargo boxes now has new mounting hardware and updated branding. A new naming system includes: RocketBox 11, RocketBox 15s and RocketBox 16 that reflects their sizing: 11, 15 and 16 cubic feet, respectively.

Inaugural Interbike OutDoor Demo East Continues to Add Exhibitors

Interbike announces preliminary exhibitor and event info for its
east coast trade-only, bicycle products testing event

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - September 2, 2008 - Interbike, producers of North America’s largest bicycle industry trade shows, today announced preliminary exhibitor and event information for its inaugural OutDoor Demo East, to be held at the Roger Williams Park in Providence, R.I.

Presented by SRAM Corporation and Jamis Bicycles, the October 21-22, 2008 Interbike OutDoor Demo East event currently has 40-plus key bicycle and accessory manufacturers scheduled to exhibit, representing close to 19,000 net-sold, square-feet of exhibit space. The exhibitor numbers are expected to grow as manufacturers continue to submit exhibiting contracts.

“This year’s OutDoor Demo East will be the first Interbike product testing event specifically serving east coast retailers,” said Andy Tompkins, Interbike’s show director. “The support the industry is giving in terms of the variety and depth of exhibitors, the special seminars, supporting events, and sponsorship is great. OutDoor Demo East will provide retailers and the media an opportunity to test new products, educate staff on new trends, and network with industry members all with a minimal amount of travel to get to the event.”

Roger Williams Park is located just south of downtown Providence and has been the host venue for the 2006 and 2007 National Cyclocross Championships. In addition to being a great place for cycling, Providence is a central location for approximately 1,200 New England and Northeast independent bicycle retail stores, and is easily accessible by most forms of transportation.

The host venue includes a road loop, sponsored by Mavic, for road and commuter bike testing and two off-road trails called “The Bowl” and the “Lakeside Trail,” for mountain and cyclocross bike testing.

The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) will also present its Super Seminar series in the Roger Williams Park Casino, a restored 1896 Colonial Revival building. NBDA Super Seminars titles include The Retail Store Manager as Leader, How to Make ‘09 Turn Out Fine, Practical Methods and Systems to Increase Profits in Your Service Department, and Power Merchandising for Bicycle Retailers.

In addition to the Super Seminars, Mavic and SRAM will also offer technical product seminars during the two-day event.

Providing a festival-like atmosphere, a DJ will be playing music all day, there will be a beer garden and concession stands for refreshment and on the evening of the first day, Pedro’s is sponsoring an industry networking party with free authentic New England food and beer.

The Interbike Outdoor Demo East event is based on the Interbike Outdoor Demo held in conjunction with the Interbike International Bicycle Expo in Las Vegas. The new event is aimed at servicing retailers who do not attend and/or additional staff members who are not able to participate in the Interbike International Expo and Outdoor Demo.

The OutDoor Demo East is not intended to replace Interbike’s September trade event, but will include additional events to benefit retailers unable to attend the Las Vegas show, for example, the NBDA Super Seminars.

To learn more about the 2008 Interbike OutDoor Demo East (i.e. current exhibitors list, schedule of events, how to exhibit, and online registration), please visit www.interbike.com.

Hey Everyone,

Mtbr.com will be at Interbike with a pretty big crew this year. We’ve got a lot of exciting stuff planned, including the featured coverage we provide with our Virtual TradeShow Booths, which include video now, too.

In addition, we like to take suggestions and requests from you, the online mountain biking community, on what YOU would like to see from the show.

There’s plenty of exciting new stuff coming out, like the new 6″ travel bike from Pivot Cycles (called the Firestorm, I believe? Or is it Mach 6?) and industry news like Turner now using DW-link technology…the new Yumeya Gruppo from Shimano….

What rumors have YOU heard? What do you want us to take photos and/or videos of? (besides booth babes, of course!)

The Mtbr request line is OPEN! Let us know, please comment here.

Thanks,
