Metrigear Vector Pedal-based Power Measurement Device - Interbike 2009
There was a buzz around the show about a new company that had a power measurement device that is integrated in the pedals.
I headed over for a visit and discovered that it was my friend Clark Foy and a couple of his rocket scientist race buddies that were behind this venture. They quit their tech jobs to pursue their passion and create a product that in their favorite industry.
What they have is the the Metrigear Vector. It is a pedal-based power measurement tool. It is designed to be simple, accurate and portable. They transmit the power data over the Ant+ network so any compatible device can display and store the data.
Why pedals? Current power measurement devices exist at the crank with SRM and at the hub with Powertap. The Metrigear Vector aims to be lighter and more portable than these systems. The pedal can be moved to another bike easily and thus allow the user to use any bike with the ability to measure power.
Target availability date is March, 2010 with a price of under $1000. The current pedal supported is the Speedplay pedal but other pedals will be supported in the future.
