Nice bike and yeah it seems excessive but I'e always found it curious when people opine on how others spend their hard earned money. There can be no question that the bike is a quality ride. The price tag aside, I don't think any of Moots customers feels like they are getting ripped off for the bikes they purchase. As others have already offered, if you have the extra money and have run out of things to spend it on then what would be wrong with spending close to $9K on a bike if you wanted to? I have a Moots compact road bike and have close to 8K into it and in 20 years of 100 - 200 mile weeks (some years less than others) and probably 20 bikes - some garage sale specials and some custom made roadies (Weigle and Sachs), it is easily the best riding bike I have ever owned and worth 4 times as much as the car I drive. Yeah, I drive a crappy car but don't really LOVE cars. I've spent much less on bikes that I really like and still own but I feel great about my Moots purchase and that's the whole point. Objectively, It shouldn't cost more than 10 times the next favorite ride in my garage but it was my choice to spend the money and no one in my family (what should be the most important expenses in any one's life) feels like they are getting ripped off. It was extra money. JMHO

All that, and they still put those crap straight bars on it -- no matter that they are Ti, I'd need to swap them for something a bit more curvy. I couldn't ride that bike for three miles without my hands going numb. (And could I have some really fat tires, too, please? Two inches or better, size matters, especially in a commuter.)

You don't lock a bike like this, you bring it in the building. I ride a $5,000 road bike to work, and it never ever get locked up, It comes right into the building with me, which would be the only option if you were to ride this bike. Which all sensibility aside is prety cool. That is if your a member of the more money than sense club

are you friggin' kidding me?
i'd like ot suggest the idiots you are referring to buy a really stupid $4000 commuter and donate $4000 to the charity of their choice.
I have plus $8k bike but my commuter (a 30 year old raleigh 3 speed) ran me $100 and it is way more cool to ride than this dorkcycle!
(nice hondos)

You have to remember whom this bike is made for. The person it is made for more then likely does have some serious cash flow and this would not be that expensive to them. It is some showoff bling for the disposable income person and Moots felt there was a market for it. Time will tell if it works or not. Come on, it would be fun to ride one into work wouldn't it? Would you need a man servant to watch it? What kind of lock would you use?

You would have to have a stupid amount of money to spend this much dough on a commuter. It is laughable...come on Moots.
