iodine 29er//new wheelsets from crankbrothers
Laguna Beach, CA, August 6, 2012 – 29ers are no longer just for cross country. Trail and all mountain bikes are adopting the bigger wheels, and crankbrothers has the perfect wheel choice for these bikes. The requirements for a 29-inch all mountain bike are very different than for a 26-inch bike. We addressed the specific needs of the all mountain 29er with a completely redesigned rim profile. Instead of simply using the 26-inch rim profile on a 29-inch wheelset, we went back to the drawing board and created a wheelset that is optimized for 29-inch all mountain riding.

iodine 29er features / The iodine 29er wheels are a technical design with many unique features:
- redesigned rim profile / The redesigned 29er rim profile is optimized for aggressive trail and all mountain riding. The thinner rim extrusion minimizes rotational weight for an ideal mix of strength and weight, designed specifically for any 100-130mm full suspension bike.
- configurable hubs / Iodine 29er hubs are configurable. Front hub adapter kits are included with all wheelsets, and iodine 3 rear hubs can be easily adapted to either 10×135 or 12×142 rear spacing.
- dual anodized level 3 rim / Dual anodization on the level 3 iodine 29er rim creates a striking pop of color.
- ::twinpair spoke technology / The ::twinpair spokes are laced in a low-dish mirror pattern, designed with 12 points of contact on a 24-spoke wheel to create balanced tension
- elongated spoke nipples / Elongated alloy nipples and short stainless steel spokes simplify truing and optimize wheel stiffness and ride quality.
- non-perforated rim / There are no spoke holes through the rim wall or rim bed, resulting in a tubeless-ready rim with ultimate strength and stiffness.
Notes =>The wheels come in two versions, the fancier iodine 3 and the entry level iodine 2. The wheels share the same rim, and only differ in some minor premium features on the upper end model. They use the common crankbrothers twinpair spoke design, and have 15mm and 20mm adapter caps for the front hub.
Notes => The upper level iodine 3 29′ers (show above) use an aluminum freehub body, Sapim stainless steel spokes and hollow pins, and the rear hub is adaptable to either 12×142mm and 10×135mm. The wheels weigh in at 186 grams and retail for $950.
Notes => The entry level iodine 2 29′ers (show above) use an steel freehub body, stainless steel spokes and solid pins, and the rear hub is fixed at 12×142mm and 10×135mm. The wheels weigh in at 1930 grams and retail for $650.
