Add some flair to your ride and maybe a bit of inspiration, too!
I found out about KustomCaps while surfing the Mtbr forums, recently. These are a neat, little way to dress up your rig with some flavor and style from a new company. KustomCaps.com just started up around late summer of last year and really is a one-man operation. Owner Dan Shust is the only employee and he is based out of Cleveland, OH (home of Ray’s MTB Park!)
These aluminum top caps come in a variety of anodized colors, and you can choose from one of their stock designs for $7.99. But the real fun is creating your own design and inspirational (perspirational?) message. If “Pedal Harder Sissy”, “Dig Deeper Wimp” or “Shut Up Legs” doesn’t work for you, you can put your own mantra on one.
There is no minimum order, Dan can do just one custom cap if you want and turnaround time for almost any order is less than a week!
Got a favorite logo or design? You can have that on your KustomCap too. We sent in a hi-rez version of the Mtbr logo and he came back with several different iterations. (My personal fav is the light blue one with the Mtbr logos all around, shown below.)
We asked Dan about the etching and we assumed that there would be no chance of the words/logo/design rubbing off….Dan replied, “That is correct. The laser actually burns away the anodization. The finish is extremely durable, high resolution and fast. We truly believe our KustomCaps do make you faster and take more risks ;)” When asked about plans for expanding into other parts, Dan intimated, “Definitely…we are just getting started…but that is all I can say for now!”
I’ve been using these caps on two of my bikes and they are definitely an eye-catching discussion starter and hold up just fine. As far as making me faster….I’m going to have to wait for my winter “insulation” to burn off before I can verify that claim!
