Lopes proving that age ain’t nothing but a number, laid down his BMX legs on the start line at the inaugural UCI MTB World Cup XC Sprint Eliminator held in Houffalize, Belgium today.
Having the confidence of a 1st place qualifying run, Brian went on to show case his fitness and experience by leading the start at every heat. The steep climbs and tight single track provided an opportunity for Lopes to take the lead by maximizing on his starts and defending it on the first climb. This approached proved to be a winning formula as it gave way to a familiar spot on the UCI podium.
“Who would have thought that at 40 years old I would be racing World Cups, but I’m back & it nice to get a victory! ” said Lopes
Who confirmed that sentiment by wearing a 1 million watt smile making it apparent that Brian was please with his performance.
