Lupine Wilma TL – 2012 Mtbr Lights Shootout

Lights Lights Shootout Video

MTBR Light Meter Measurements:

This light measured 113 lux on our ambient Mtbr Lux light measurement facility. This compares well to the 112 Lux of the Light and Motion Seca 1400.  The Niterider 1500 lumen light is in range too at 115 lux.  So in reality, this Wilma TL light is right on par with 1400-1500 rated lumen lights in the market today.

In a laboratory integrating sphere, this light measured out at 1000 lumens. This again is suprisingly bright as manufacturers are typically 20-30% off their lumen claims.

Below is the actual lumen output of the Lupine Wilma TL over time. After an initial startup, the Lupine Wilma TL settles in at around 900 lumens and stays fairly flat for the duration of its run time. At around 65 minutes, it gives a warning flash and near 80 minutes, it gives another flash.  It then shuts off completely before the 80 minute mark.  The key thing to note here is the light is very consistent throughout its whole battery cycle. This is a sign of a good quality, regulated electronics. Heat dissipation is good too as the light has not problem with heat given our test bed airflow.

Strengths:

  • Excellent light output and beam pattern
  • Extremely compact for the light output
  • Perhaps the best self-contained bike light today
  • Lupine quality and reliability

Weaknesses:

  • 1.2 hours in high means it shouldn’t be run in high all the time.

Bottom Line:

This is the best high end  self-contained light available today.

Beam Pattern Photos:

The backyard beam pattern is extemely bright in the center area and it has a pretty wide peripheral throw.

The trail beam pattern is where this light truly shines. It is wide as it shows the canopy and the nearby trail quite nicely. The orange marker at the 100 feet distance is nice and clear. And the green marker at the 200 feet distance is easily visible too. This showcases the awesome throw of the Lupine Wilma TL.
