If there’s one thing we know for sure it’s that our readers know how to have a good time. And if you’re a Bay Area local no better time will be had this coming weekend than at the Mtbr-sponsored Demo Dig Days in Soquel Demonstration State Forest March 15 and 16. Roll your sleeves up with us and our friends from the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz as we help build Demo’s new flow trail.

We’ll bring some sweet schwag, food and some apres work beverages—you supply the muscle, smiling faces and good attitudes. There’s even optional limited camping for people doing both days, but all workers are required to pre-register here per insurance and permit requirements.

Demo flow trail: Ride it, work it…make it your own

Popularized by trails like Half Nelson in Squamish, British Columbia, the Sandy Ridge Trails near Clackamas, Ore., and Endor, at Camp Tamarancho near Fairfax, Calif., flow trails feature roller coaster-like terrain that encourage riders to use gravity and technique for propulsion with little pedaling and braking. By their nature, flow trails are progressive, allowing beginners to coast over rollers and dips, while more experienced riders can choose to air and jump the same features.

Demo’s new flow trail is divided into six distinct segments and will include a progressive skills development area. The project, which is partially funded through sponsorship, private donations and the fundraising efforts of the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz, was recently selected as a finalist in the IMBA Bell Built trail grant program.

This weekend’s Dig Days are the first of many for the season, so if the timing doesn’t work for you, keep your eyes on Mtbr for future dates. If work days are out of the question, but you’d still like to contribute, cash is always welcome at the MBoSC donation page here.

Local support for the project has been excellent with Ibis, FOX, Specialized, Bontrager, Epicenter Cycling, and Trail Head Cyclery each adopting a segment.
