Niteflux is a company from Australia that makes high end lights that are a little bit different from the US mold. We find it very cool to have fresh ideas from all over the world so we’re always excited to see what they have to offer.
This year, they were excited about their PMini12. It’s a 214 gram light (installed) that has a claimed output of 1000 lumens. It is designed to be installed on the helmet with the light near the front and the battery just strapped on to the back.
It is a tiny light head so we were surprised to see so much light come out of it. The beam pattern is big and consistent with now hotspot. It’s not 1000 lumens bright but it’s one of the lightest 200 gram headlights that we’ve ever tested.
The radical innovation on this light is a wireless infrared light switch. It weighs 9 grams and can be strapped on anywhere, usually on the handlebar. Remote switches are not usually that useful for bar lights but for a helmet light, it improves ergonomics quite a bit. You never have to be fumbling by your helmet again, feeling around for that light switch. The battery also has a switch that will work in with or without the remote switch.
Run time is at 1:45 at full power so that is truly impressive for a light of this power and weight.

Helmet mounting is done with simple straps in the front. There is dual sided tape to assist in keeping the light in place for very rough conditions. The lights are mounted near the fron of the helmet so the height is not increased at all. The battery can be put in a pack or mounted right on the helmet. At 214 grams complete, it’s perfectly reasonable to mount the battery on the helmet.
The light switch can be mounted right on the grip so it’s easily accessible.
