Pedro's Announces Immediate Change in Management


HAVERHILL, Mass. (March 24, 2010) – Pedro’s Inc. announced today the departure of Chris Zigmont as CEO, effective as of March 22, 2010.


“We thank Chris for his significant contributions to Pedro’s during the last five years,” said Lars Hellsten, chairman of the Pedro’s board. “Chris managed strong accomplishments in taking Pedro’s from a division within a larger company to a stand alone and fully-fledged company. His passion for the brand and bicycle will live on at Pedro’s.”


Looking ahead to the future, Pedro’s will focus efforts on strengthening internal operations.

“We will leverage our existing strengths, which have yielded a healthy brand over the years,” Hellsten said, “and will intensify our efforts to drive a culture of operational excellence.”

Effective immediately, the board has announced Matthew Simpson, Chief Operating Officer and interim CEO.

    With the problems they have in fulfilling orders, customer service, and timely completion of requests it is only a matter of time before they close the doors.

    I think you are completely right in the sense Pedro’s has, like many small businesses suffered through the tightening of credit to business over the past two seasons. But, what you are missing is the fact they are admitting an issue and the willingness to correct their course of direction. Pedro’s has done a lot over the past few years to raise the awareness of social responsibility through green initiatives and creating a product profile that reflects that. Chris Z deserves a lot of thanks for that and for attracting customers and employees to the brand who will continue with those efforts. I wish the people at Pedro’s the best moving forward and look forward to them correcting their internal issues, improving order fulfillment, and creating new innovative stuff. It doesn’t sound like they are going to close the doors. The problems you list are most likely the first things they will fix, be patient and give it 6-12 months, I think we will all be surprised.

    chris Z helped Pedro’s become a major player in the market. it’s a shame that they have to cut him loose when the internal issues and problems are not his, but sadly, when management needs to save money they cut from the top. some company in the bike industry is going to benefit big time from Pedro’s bad decision. Pedro’s used to be a cool brand, but with many other lubes out there, i think it’s time for me to try Purple Extreme, Pro Gold or DuMonde Teech’s Bio Lube.
