2 run format, more hero dirt and lots of smiles!

IRVINE, Calif. (February 9, 2013) – Hero dirt and super fun courses are once again the name of the game at round 3 of the 2013 Southridge USA Shimano Winter Series in Fontana, CA. The Super D field of nearly 100 riders showed up to freshly watered trails and again a few new features to keep riders on their toes.

Word has been spreading about the Super D courses and more pros are coming in from out of town to test their skills against the local hot shoes. Turns outs the locals still know the fastest way down the mountain as Waylon Smith dominated both runs today. By scorching the 2 courses with a combined time of 08:23.10 Waylon put an end to Jon Buck ell’s 3 race win streak that picked up from last year’s winter series finals. Buckell still finished a solid second place on the day aboard his Team Incycles Shimano equipped Cannondale. 3rd place went to Shimano’s own MTB marketing man and course designer Joe Lawwill and former National Champion Team Hyper rider Eric Carter slotted into 4th with Ryan Gardner of Kona Bikes rounding out the podium in 5th.

With Enduro becoming so popular these early season Super D events are great warm-up events for riders to sort out their equipment and gauge where their fitness is before setting out for the big Enduros coming this Spring and Summer. It was great to see more new riders come out and to see many of the new riders from the previous rounds come back for more. Once again a special acknowledgment goes out to “The Path Bike Shop” for once again supplying Jordan Steyer for a full day of course prep. Now that is supporting your local event!

The next race is February 23rd. Shimano is excited to be a part of the Winter Series and is looking forward to seeing these gravity endurance events continue to grow. Winter Series race promoter Donny Jackson continues to offer the Shimano kid’s races so be sure to bring out the little ones to the next event!

Two 29ers on the Pro Men’s SuperD podium, I think. Waylon Smith #1 (Trek Rumblefish) and Ryan Garder #5 (Kona Satori?).

Look at the time! Waylon Smith in a whole other league.
