2015 Sea Otter Classic

Polygon is an Indonesian brand that is new to the US and they are using the popular direct-to-consumer business model here in the U.S. that many overseas brands are using. They are similar to Giant or Merida in that they own their own manufacturing facilities. They have an extensive line of bikes but for the American market, they are limiting initial offerings to a handful of carbon mountain bikes like the Collosus line of all mountain/enduro/trail bikes. New for this year is the Syncline series of carbon hardtails that are XC race ready. We take a close-up look at the Polygon Syncline 9 and Collosus N9.

The Syncline 9 is available in 4 sizes (15.5", 17.5", 19", 21") and has a suggested retail price of $6199.

Polygon Syncline 9 - carbon hardtail

The Polygon Syncline 9 is their top-of-the-line, "no compromise" race rig that starts with the stiff and light ACX high modulus carbon frame. Despite the name, the Syncline 9 rolls on 27.5" wheels. The ACX carbon frame is spec'd with a Fox Float 32 Factory fork with Kashima coat, Shimano XTR 22 speed Di2, XTR wheelset and Ritchey Super Logic carbon cockpit.

The fit and finish are very nice and while we didn't get a chance to weigh this particular model, the bike should come in around the 21 lbs mark. The Syncline 9 is available in 4 sizes (15.5", 17.5", 19", 21") and has a suggested retail price of $6199.

The Polygon Collosus N9 is a full carbon enduro machine with 160mm of floating pivot travel.

Polygon Collosus N9 XTR - enduro racer

The Collosus N9 XTR was developed in conjunction with Polygon's UR Team that features Mick Hannah and other top level racers. The frame is a full carbon monocoque mainframe with a triangulated rear. Like most all mountain/enduro oriented bikes, the Collosus rolls on 27.5" wheels.

The rear suspension design looks quite complex and features a floating pivot design that gives 160mm of travel. Brake forces and chain forces are claimed to be isolated to help maintain control and traction. Enduro Max pivots and short 431mm stays combined with the 12mm E-thru axle also increases stiffness and handling.

The spec of this bike features a Fox 36 Talas Factory RC2 FIT fork with Kashima coating paired with a custom valved Float X CTD rear shock. The drivetrain is a Shimano XTR 2x11 group and the wheels are e13 TRS 27.5". Spank provides Oozy cockpit parts and the internally routed RockShox Reverb Stealth dropper seat post is a nice touch.

The Polygon Collosus N9 is available in 4 sizes (16", 17", 18.5", 20.5") and has a suggested retail price of $5999. Polygon also likes to stress their "Ride and Decide" 30 day no hassle guarantee to help ease the minds of potential buyers who may be wary of buying a complete bike online.
