Guarantees Continued Access for All Cyclists – Road & MTB

The Fort Ord Public Lands are invaluable part of the landscape of Monterey County. The 15,000 acres of federal lands at Fort Ord are some of the last undeveloped open space on the Monterey Peninsula, and are home to rare plants and a range of wildlife. They are also host to a wealth of cycling opportunities.

The single track trails at Fort Ord have been cared for by Monterey Off-Road Cycling Association (MORCA) a Chapter of IMBA. In a perfect display of the IMBA core values, MORCA has joined with a number of other local user groups and conservation organizations to protect and enhance this treasured landscape. The group has petitioned the Department of Interior and the President to designate the area as a National Monument to be managed by the BLM.

Take Action! Sign IMBA’s petition to protect Fort Ord as a National Monument.

IMBA and MORCA have worked with stakeholders and decision makers in the Department of Interior and BLM to ensure that proclamation of Fort Ord as a National Monument will embrace the recreational mountain bicycling and the permitted events, including the Sea Otter Classic, that take place on this amazing landscape. If this work is completed this National Monument will demonstrate how the recreation economy and conservation ethic work together to enhance and protect our cherished places to ride.
