Race Face Atlas FR Cranks
What can a season of riding tell you about a crankset? A lot. What can 24 hours of putting off posting a review do? It can change a written but unpublished review about said crankset.
The Atlas FR crankset I’ve been running since just after Sea Otter ’08 has been fantastic, until today. Coincidentally the day I was to finish this review.
Though perhaps there is no need to be so dramatic. As Bender from Breakfast Club says “screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.” So let me talk about the multiple plus sides, which out weight the down singular down side, before I express my one complaint. Which is really is more irritating than horrific.
I’d like to let you all know my last two cranksets, including a Race Face crankset, either had the pedal threads rip out of the crank arms or had bottom brackets destroyed and/or had obvious flex. The Atlas FR cranks have had non of that. But I was worried, no pedal inserts. Would this be a problem? Would I end up ripping out another set of pedal threads? Would the external BB crunch up after some serious abuse?

Losing the self puller cap – happened on my RF crankset as well. It was rough going to get the crankset off and a new cap costs $18. Soured me on RF for a while (minus my older Turbine square tapers which I love).
haha that cap would suck if i lost mine. i got the 09 version so hopefully they fixed it by now.
.
yeah i striped my crank arm were the pedal gos so I’m getting an insert put in one side. hope the other side doesn’t fck up also tho.
