Trek Factory Racing team member Sam Schultz, who is the current US National XC Mountain Bike Champion and a 2012 London Olympian, stopped by the Mtbr booth to show off his completely redesigned 2013 Superfly 100 SL XC 29er. The Superfly 100 SL features internal cable routing, efficient pedaling, Shimano and Fox suspension and handles like a race machine with almost 30% of the weight shaved out of the frame. Sam also tells us more about his London Olympic experience and his hopes for the 2016 Rio Summer Games.

About Sam Schultz
Hailing from Missoula, Montana, Sam “Big Sky” Schultz now embarks on his seventh season aboard a Trek. He grew up exploring trails out his back door, but it was his uncle who encouraged Sam to try his first race. Sam’s 2012 season was full of highlights, with his first Elite US National Champion title and a repeat victory at his hometown Pro XCT race. Sam also managed to score multiple top 20 finishes at World Cup events, and helped the US Olympic team record its best cross-country results at the London Games. For 2013 season, Sam wants to climb up the international results ladder, as well as defend his National Championship title.

Superfly 100 SL Highlights

  • OCLV Mountain Carbon: Trek’s patented OCLV Carbon process is tailored to the rigors of off-road use while still preserving light weight and great ride quality.
  • ABP: Active Braking Pivot keeps the suspension active, even under braking.
  • G2 Geometry: A custom offset fork and corresponding frame geometry give you precise handling at low speeds without compromising high-speed stability. It’s a better-handling 29er.
