Santa Cruz Superlight 29 Full Suspension 29er

29er Cross Country

Introduction by Francis Cebedo:

The Superlight is the bike that launched Santa Cruz into the stratosphere. It was a combination of low weight and capable full suspension performance. It blended technology and reliability and offered it at reasonable price. Well those qualities are still important so Santa Cruz is offering the Superlight with 29er wheels now. Travel is 100 mm or 4 inches and geometry is optimized for a 4 inch travel fork with the head angle at 71 degrees.

Here’s the specs and available kits:

Claimed frame weight is 5.9lbs for a medium with shock.

Frameset with shock is $1,050

$1,850 for the D/XC build

$2350 for the R/XC with a Deore/XT/SLX mix with Reba RL fork

Complete bikes are available very soon. Framesets will be available after the complete bike orders are filled.

From Mike Ferrentino:

We’ve been wanting to build this bike for a while now. Combining the proven value and performance of the legendary Superlight with the smooth rolling stability of larger wheels, we present the Superlight29. Custom hydroformed aluminum tubing, a reliable, efficient, responsive single pivot suspension design offering 100mm of travel, terrain eating 29″ wheels and kickass value for money all add up to a timeless sweetheart of a bike. The big wheel Superlight is also available in a small size with the lowest standover in this class of bike, and is packed with features that would be at home on much more expensive bikes:

S, M, L, XL sizes (note that the 22.2″ top tube length and 27.3 standover on our small is shorter than what some other folks are calling “extra-small”, and lower than anything else in this class)

  • Hydroformed top- and downtubes
  • Tapered headtube
  • Replaceable derailleur hanger
  • 100mm travel
  • 7.875×2″ shock and “large” swingarm for L and XL sizes
  • 6.5″x1.5″ shock and “small” swingarm for S and M sizes (better for standover clearance)
  • 15mm collet axle pivot hardware
  • Custom tuned Fox Float RL shock
  • Continuous cable routing, dropper post routing
  • Threaded bb shell (we think this is still the best, most user-friendly, widely compatible, globally serviceable way to install a bottom bracket.)

Available complete starting at $1850 (D/XC kit)

Available in Colors:

Gloss burnt orange/silver

Gloss black/green

BOTH of these new models are in stock at Santa Cruz and ready to ship. Contact your local Santa Cruz dealer and get ready to spring forward (okay, technically that doesn’t happen this year until March 11th, unless you live in Arizona where it doesn’t happen at all, but it’s close enough for us. Yes, we also know that was a really hokey way to end this news blast. Couldn’t help ourselves, sorry)!
