SNOWSHOE, W.Va. – Snowshoe Mountain Resort announced today the schedule for this summer’s Formula Racing Downhill Mountain Bike Camps hosted by Snowshoe’s Mountain Bike Park. These coed camps feature detailed instruction by certified, personable, and professional coaches.
Formula Racing Camps offer riders an all-inclusive package with two days of intense instruction, geared towards intermediate to advanced level downhill riders looking to shave seconds off their race times with personalized instruction from National Championship Caliber DH Coaches. The 2009 Camps will be led by Christopher Herndon from Etowah, NC. Herndon is a well know World Class Cyclist and a true ambassador of the sport of Mountain Biking. An extremely versed competitor, Christopher has built an impressive resume of 1st place finishes on both national and regional circuits. In 2007 he earned a 1st place finish in the Dual Slalom National Championship along with a 3rd place finish in the Downhill National Championship. Christopher’s passion for winning is matched only by his commitment to facilitate the growth of the sport through coaching and education.
Each camp precedes one of the Downhill Races in Snowshoe’s $25,000 Powerade Race Series, providing campers the perfect opportunity to test their new skills and see marked improvement in their riding technique. The camp is an intimate instructional setting, guaranteeing each participant intense one-on-one instruction. Registration fees include three (3) nights lodging in Snowshoe’s comfortable accommodations, two (2) days of expert instruction, a three (3) day Bike Park Pass to Snowshoe’s challenging and diverse trail system, eight (8) meals (three meals for Friday and Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday), a camp t-shirt and photograph, as well as free entry into the Sunday downhill race. Registration for this all-inclusive camp is a great value at just $499 plus tax. Camps are open to riders 14 years and older (some restrictions apply), and space for each camp is limited.
Snowshoe’s Mountain Bike Park is one of the East Coast’s best Downhill & Freeride destinations, offering 38 DH and Freeride trails. With 800 vertical feet of riding available in Snowshoe’s technically challenging basin area, and over 1,500 vertical feet in the famed Western Territory, Snowshoe is home to the area’s most diverse terrain and exciting events. Last season, Snowshoe’s expert Bike Park Team cut four new machine-built trails, characterized by seemingly endless huge berms, table tops, and jumps; these new flow trails allow seasoned riders to go as big as they want, but also provide beginning and intermediate riders the terrain to confidently progress their skills. The new Raging Bull trail, located in the Basin, is sponsored by Snowshoe’s friends at Red Bull and features a distinctive blend of machine packed berms and a ½ dozen wooden features including a monster 40’ L x 16’ H banked wall ride that allows riders to go as small or as big as they want. The 2009 season will see an expanded calendar of the high speed Western Territory Lift operations and will provide riders with the opportunity to make more runs and rack up more vertical feet than ever before.
