SRAM XX1 Explained

Components Interbike

SRAM revolutionized mountain bike drivetrains with the 2×10 system and now, XX1 continues their reputation for innovation and simplicity with what works. XX1 can be used for enduro/all-mtn trail riding as well as for XC riding. The rear cassette has an amazing 10-42 tooth spread! In a nutshell, the benefits of a 1×11 speed drivetrain is that the system is simpler, lighter and more durable.

In this video, Tyler Morland of SRAM explains the uses and reasons to use SRAM’s all new 11 speed drivetrain: XX1.

XX1 is available with either trigger shifter or grip shifter. It is a gruppo so it includes crank, ring, rear derailleur, cassette, 11 speed chain and shifter. Not everything SRAM has done with drivetrains has been a home run (Hammerschmidt, anyone?) And, like 2×10 before it, 1×11 is not for everyone. However, like Tyler says, you really have to ride it to feel how well it works. We thing many riders will be surprised just how well it works for them.

Get a better ride – improve your technique its not the gear its the rider that makes the difference, still using 3 x 9 (XT) for trail / all mountain the choice of front rings allows you to DO IT ALL. Spares are cheap the systems are tried tested and work! Trouble is too much hype over stuff!

Dear SRAM… one word to make this perfect: Bashguard.

This is hardly innovative. And what makes it more durable?

I have the 3×9 XTR groupo that I’ve had for over 4 yrs, It’s time for an upgrade to XX1, this system look sick and ingeniously design. I DL the bike gear ratio app for my iPhone and the gears were almost the same as my gear ratio I currently have but with less cable/component clutter and less weight. I won’t need a bash guard because the chain will protect the single ring.
