Stan’s NoTubes ZTR Crest 650b and ZTR Arch EX 29er Wheels

27.5 29er Wheels

When it comes to running tubeless tires, Stan’s NoTubes is the originator. Stan’s started all the way back in 2001 as a better way to fight against flat tires. Fast forward many years and the name “Stan’s” is basically synonymous with tire sealant and tubeless mountain bike tires are the preferred choice of many enthusiasts. The ability to run lower tire pressure means the rider can get more direct feedback from their tires which improves confidence in the traction that is available.

But Stan’s isn’t just about tire sealant. Rims, hubs, tires and complete wheelsets are all available including road tubeless and cyclocross offerings. The current 650b movement is strong and the single best selling 650b wheelset right now for Stan’s NoTubes is the ZTR Crest 650B. Stan’s is also testing out some new hubs on the Crests with technology from Industry Nine called the 3.60 (vs. the current 3.30) which features 3 pawls with 60 points of engagement (the 3.30 has 3 pawls, 30 points of engagement). If the 3.60s prove to be popular, they will be widely available late fall/early winter. I asked the Stan’s guys if they will be switching to the 27.5 moniker any time soon and they said “possibly”.

Also a strong seller is the ZTR Arch EX 29er wheelset.

Stan’s NoTubes ZTR Crest 650b Wheels

“The ZTR Crest is built for cross country and light trail use. Lighter than the Arch EX, it features next generation BST for tire stability, minimal rolling resistance and outstanding tubeless seal. The rear hub can be converted to 12×142 with ZH0077.”

  • Featuring BSTTM (Bead Socket Technology)
  • Shimano and SRAM 8/9/10 speed compatible
  • Yellow rim tape and valves installed for tubeless use
  • 1520 grams
  • $595.00

Stan’s NoTubes ZTR Arch EX 29er Wheels

“The Arch EX is lighter, wider and tougher than the original Arch rim! Once again, Bead Socket Technology construction provides superior tubeless compatibility. The internal arch design provides durability and stiffness, two assets especially important for heavier riders. Although lightweight, the Arch EX can handle aggresive trail riding. Quite possibly the best rim for any situation. Inspire confidence in your ride with the ZTR Arch EX. The rear hub can be converted to 12×142 with ZH0077.”

  • Featuring BSTTM (Bead Socket Technology)
  • Shimano and SRAM 8/9/10 speed compatible
  • Yellow rim tape and valves installed for tubeless use
  • 1775 grams
  • $595.00

No 26″? I getting ready to have a nice set built for a 26″ SS bike.
But if Stan’s assumes no one wants this size, then how would I
know to give them a chance?

    • zephxiii says:

They have Podium MMX, Crest, Arch EX, and Flow EX available in 26″.

    • Di2Rider says:

Yeah I picked up a set of 26″ Crest wheels and they are the best bang for the buck and at 1440grams for the set they are well worth it

  • eb1888 says:

    Gregg-
You say “Just to show how strong the current 650b movement is, the single best selling wheelset right now for Stan’s NoTubes is the ZTR Crest 650B.”
    Steve says-
“…I’ve got here our Crest 650b. Which happens to be our best selling 650b wheelset right now.”
That means best selling among sales of 650b units, not all wheelsets.
There could be 1000 ArchEx 29er wheelsets sold and 5 650b wheelsets sold, 3 of which are Crests.

  • Gregg Kato says:

Ah, good point, eb. I think I might have misunderstood that. Let me double check with Mike and make corrections.

  • Gregg Kato says:

Clarification received: “The Crest (26, 650b, and 29) collectively are our best selling model and in 650b, the Crest is currently king.”

So you are correct, EB. I have changed the article text for accuracy.
