Strava is an Mtbr favorite around the office. Whether it be by iPhone or by Garmin, Strava really is THE killer app for cyclists. We have gone more in-depth about what Strava is and what it does in earlier write-ups and we have even covered the controversy and lawsuits involving Strava, but in-short, Strava is a GPS mapping software that plots your bike ride data on a map and collects stats. The magic happens with the social interaction of Strava users and their friends.
It is this social interaction and comparison that draws people in. And now the Strava iPhone App has been improved to become even more social! The “Feed” now shows the rides of those you follow (as well as your own) and with one tap you can check out your buddies latest ride info. One more tap and you can comment and give “kudos”. Just switch between the “Following” and “Me” tabs to see the latest info.
From the official press release:
“Find athletes to follow directly from the iPhone app too. Go to your Profile to search for friends manually or see Strava athletes who are on Facebook. You can also manage your followers, as well as your Enhanced Privacy Mode settings from Strava.com, and your preferences will sync with your iPhone.”
And Android users – listen up! The new social features for you will be coming this winter.
(Please note that due to Apple’s new system requirements, Strava supports iOS 4.3 and higher on iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, and 5, but not iPhone 3.)
