TAG Wheels(r) Lowers Price on Popular FRX5 Wheelset

Newport Beach, Calif (April 24, 2008) TAG Wheels(r), the US manufacturer of the toughest, lowest maintenance bicycle wheels in the world, today announces a significant price reduction on their bombproof FRX5 wheelset. The new suggested retail price of $799US vs. $949US takes effect immediately.

The FRX5 wheelset is a one-piece, hollow, reinforced, five-spoke composite wheel built around the reliable and durable DT Swiss 440 hubs. The wheels, which feature the star ratchet engagement system, accommodate most axle configurations with simple end cap adapters.

“The price reduction is a strategic move to get more riders on the FRX5 wheelset,” says Mike Thomas, Vice-President of TAG Wheels. “Clearly riders are looking for tough, long lasting wheels but the wheels need to be affordable. The FRX5 wheels take punishment, require ultra low maintenance, last for many years, and now they’re even cheaper to own. All qualities customers tell us they want in a wheelset.”

FRX5 wheels are proudly made in the USA and feature a two-year warranty. The wheels boast a wide range of applications: from DH and freeride bikes, to urban and all mountain. In addition, TAG FRX5 wheels are used on gravity park rental fleets, police bikes, by pro stunt riders, aggressive and heavy riders. In other words the wheels are great for just about any riding style.

And for IBDs, it’s easy to become an official TAG dealer with the minimum order of just one wheelset. Plus, FRX5 wheels are available in the US through BTI Distribution.

    these are terribly ugly..

    Cost from BTI is around 700 dollars for a set, and retail is now 800? What bike shop would carry these with margins that low?

  • Sean McDermott says:

    Are they UST tubeless compatible? Seems like it would be very easy to manufacture them to be.

    Wheel + hub…no QR:

    Front = 1828 g
    Rear = 1928 g

    gee, I wonder why they’re not selling…hmmm.

    I like how it says “Less pinch flats!”… Why not just go ghetto tubeless?!?! Oh yeah that would add weight to an already ridiculous amount!!! Still 800$$ is way too much for plastic…

  • Ty says:

    Love the concept, still riding my Spinergy Rev-X-Roks on a converted MTBroad bike and had several sets of plastic/composite wheels on my BMX bikes back in the day.

    However these guys need to follow the “pick 2 rule” that we the consumers have to follow when making a purchase:

    Cheap / Light / Strong, you can’t have everything so pick 2!! The problem is TAG has only choosen 1, strong, not good enough.

    Either drop the weight to 2,100g for the set or drop the price to $300.

    And only a 2 year warranty?!?! WEAKSAUCE!!!! I had a 3 year warranty on my Mavics.

    Got the wheels, and love them. First off, everything said about the wheels is completely true, and I’ve had no problems with getting flats or any anything. I love the low (really no) maintenance that they require. They are so strong is almost unreal, how do I know this? I was hit by an suv, thrown off my bike, and my bike was partially under the suv. Well, put it like this, my front wheel is now so bent out of shape that it isn’t ridable (a normal, metal, high maintenance wheel), my back wheel (which is a mag) is perfectly fine, not even scratched or dented. Trust me on this one, there isn’t a better wheel.
