Specialized Roval Control Trail SL 29er Carbon Wheels

The crew at Specialized dropped these wheels off to me and they have been the work horse of the mtbr stable for the last four months. I have used them on the Epic, Camber, Tallboy LTc, and rigid carbon Niner. Friends have taken it out on test rides, from endurance guys, fast guys, powerful and heavy riders.  The reaction is always the same as they call them ‘cheater wheels.’  That’s just an endearing term we use for components that give you one unfair advantage over normal 29er wheels.

The Basics:

  • Model: Specialized Roval Control Trail SL 29er
  • Price: $1700
  • Weight: 1530 grams
  • Rim: Carbon fiber with 28 mm external and 21 mm internal rim width
  • Skewers: Ti included
  • Tubeless Compatible: Yes with rim tape, tubeless valves included
  • Axle compatibility: 142+ and 9m skewer compatible on the rear.  20 mm, 15 mm, 9mm skewer compatible in the front.
  • Rider Weight limit: 240 lbs.

Tour of California – Specialized, Cannondale, Trek

The 2012 Tour of California is going on this week and I had the chance to watch the finish of Stage 2 (SF-to-Santa Cruz) in Aptos yesterday. Even if you aren’t into road bikes or racing, the event is a pretty spectacular cycling scene. There were even a few mountain bikes to be found in the expo area. Here are some highlights. Be sure to check out the FULL coverage of the Amgen Tour of California on RoadBikeReview.com!

Specialized Turbo E-bike

Specialized’s Turbo electric bicycle was on display. It is being touted as the “fastest e-bike ever made” (for Europe, that is.) It has a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). The frame features internally routed cables, rear hub motor (ala Bionx), disc brakes and a battery incorporated into the down tube.

Specialized-lululemon Video Release “Professional Passion Seekers” / Armstrong On Top at Energiewcht

YouTube Preview Image

At the Specialized lululemon team camp back in early 2012, Lezyne was fortunate enough to be able to share their experiences at the camp. We not only shared a ride with the girls, but grabbed some food with them as well as some interviews. The following view is what we were able to gather from the girls. Without a doubt, they were an amazing team and an extremely strong group of women (both on and off of the bike). The team is made up of immensely strong women who also happen to have sterling careers to back them up. Lezyne is extremely proud to be a partner of Specialized lululemon and the amazing women that encompass it.” We hope that you enjoy this video, as making it was certainly the best part.

Get a World Champion’s Specialized S-Works Epic 29 Bike for a Great Cause

Unique S-Works Epic + Great Charity = Win/Win

Kayamandi, South Africa—World Champions and teammates Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander are racing the 2012 Absa Cape Epic this week on custom Specialized S-Works Epic 29 bikes — and two lucky mountain bikers will end up owning them while supporting Songo, a fantastic South African children’s charity. Songo is auctioning the two bikes of the reigning Cape Epic Champions.

Made specifically for the race, the Epic bikes are painted in the colors of Songo, a social development program that provides sport and recreational activities to South African children. While providing kids a safe place to grow and learn, Songo also teaches accountability and responsibility while providing kids the tools to achieve their goals.

Sauser and Stander’s bikes are currently being auctioned off — with bidding closing at the end of the race on April 1. All proceeds will go to the Songo.info Foundation, which Sauser helped start four years ago.

Video: Sam Hill and Troy Brosnan Set For a Great Season.

Introduction by Francis Cebedo:

This video proves that it is possible to steer at full speed while doing a wheelie! Check 2:40 on the video to see the power of control of Troy Brosnan.  It is inspiring to see such confidence in riders that they can steer and throw the bike around while in mid-air or while riding on one wheel.

Check out two of the most racers around as they assault their local trails in Australia.

San Rafael, Calif. – December 13, 2011 - Several local Trips for Kids (TFK) chapters became the recipient of a Specialized “Grant in a Box,” at the nomination of their local Specialized dealers and the Dealer Grant Program. The grants are just one component of the Specialized First Gear Program, aimed at “…getting 10,000 kids riding bikes this year who otherwise wouldn’t have had the chance.”

The seven Trips for Kids chapters to receive grants from the Fall Specialized Grant cycle are: Trips for Kids Buellton, Charlotte, Chicago Voyagers, City of Lakes, of Harrisburg, Marin, Southern Arizona, Taos and Western Youth Network. These chapters will each receive a package that includes six new Specialized bikes, 10 helmets, tune ups by the local Specialized shop that nominated them, funds from the sale of TFK water bottles and more.

“Specialized has been most generous to Trips for Kids since our inception 23 years ago,” said Marilyn Price, Trips for Kids founder and director. “The package that Specialized is offering to our chapters is extremely valuable and greatly appreciated. TFK gives a very ‘Special’ thanks to Specialized. Here in Marin, we worked with Bryce Kirk at Tam Bikes and loved connecting with a local shop that has supported us through the years.”
