Team Chain Reaction Cycles.com / Intense – World Championships 2010

News

team_chain_reaction_cycles_intenseThe World Championships was the last big race of the season. The big ‘One Day’ race where the best riders from each country around the globe compete in their National jerseys to try and win the coveted World Championship stripes! All our riders qualified for their individual countries teams – which was amazing.

The event was amazing! The guys at Mont Sainte Anne put on a stellar event as usual and many thousands came to watch from the cities of Quebec and Montreal.

The team didn’t come away with any rainbow stripes or world championship medals unfortunately, but everyone on the team gave it their all and went for it as there was no points at stake here like in the World Cups.

The weather did play a part in the race as it was on and off throughout race day and some riders got better conditions than others. That did put a bit of a dampener on the race but that is racing and sometimes a bit of luck is involved. The track as usual at MSA was really tough, high speed, huge holes, ruts and breaking bumps from the practice and the bad weather later on in the week. There was also a fair bit of pedalling as well as really gnarly wood and rock sections. This track has it all and is definitely a good Worlds track.

Claire Buchar finished 9th for the day with a solid ride in slippy conditions. Claire has had an amazing year and never once finished outside the top ten! Well done Claire.

Ruaridh Cunningham who has been coming into form in the second half of the season had a great result getting a top 20 finnish in 19th. Great result Ruaridh!

Julien Camellini really went for it but made 3 huge mistakes on his run, one which we saw on the live screen and he was very lucky to not have a big crash. But Julien was pleased with his ride and said he gave it everything he had, but it just didn’t work out on the day but he still finished 20th.

Julien has not had the results he is capable of the last 2 seasons due to injury and crashes but he definitely has the speed to compete with the best as his past results have shown. His 7th place finish at the Fort William world cup earlier this year is testament of this. He will be back up there…..

Chris Kovarik a past winner of 2 world cups on this track and was looking super fast in practice earlier in the week on the dry and dusty conditions but his race run just didn’t work out for him and he ended the day in a (for him) disappointing 27th.

Matt Simmonds really went for it with a conservative top section as he knew he had the pace on the lower parts of the track! He was 21st on the second split and started really flying on the bottom half but then came into a technical rocky wood section just too fast, missed a line and had a big over the bars crash, getting all tangled up in the tapes and ending his chances of a top 15 goal for the race.

Unfortunately our highest ranked male rider this season – Matti Lehikoinen was unable to race due to the shoulder injury he sustained the week before at the World Cup finals in Windham and had to sit the Worlds out. Matti has torn some muscles pretty badly in his shoulder and now has to have a bit of time out to recover. We wish Matti a speedy recovery and best wishes from everyone on the team.

On behalf of the whole team I would like to thank everyone for making this year the best of our 3 year journey as a team. The riders have been amazing in a really tough year, the mechanics have worked their fingers to the bone with really long days and we all achieved our goal as UCI No.1 Team.

Thanks to all our amazing sponsors for providing us with the best equipment and support to enable us to go racing!

Last but definitely not least – a huge thank you to http://www.chainreactioncycles.com for making our team possible.

Until next year…..

Cheers
