Team Jamis Announces 2011 Roster

Team Jamis is excited to announce it’s coming out of the blocks in 2011 firing on all cylinders. The team just signed Ben Sonntag to join the Jamis family. Sonntag will make his Team Jamis debut at the TransAndes mountain bike stage race this week in Patagonia, Chile. Ben will join Jason Sager to compete as a duo team in the 6-day stage race while Team Jamis’ Blake Harlan competes in the solo category.

In 2010 German rider Sonntag, 30, became one of only 3 non-Costa Ricans to have ever won the La Ruta de los Conquistadores and joins Team Jamis after several successful seasons on the US circuit. As a former 2x Winter Triathlon World Champion, Ben has groomed himself into one of the best endurance stage racers in North America. “Ever since moving to Durango to go to college, I’ve been enthralled with mountain bike racing in the US”, said Sonntag, “Continuing to develop my career and to have found a home with Team Jamis is certainly a highlight to this journey. Going down to Chile to race a 6 day race straight from a very snowy January will be interesting…however I love my new bikes and think we’re going to have an exciting and rewarding season!”

Team Jamis also welcomes three additional new members – Puerto Rican National Champion Eudaldo “Bebe” Asencio, new Utah based professional Kelsy Bingham and the south eastern menace, Thomas Turner. Returning to Team Jamis for their third season with the squad are Israeli National Champion Rotem Ishay, Super D stalwart Adam Snyder, endurance racer Blake Harlan and manager Jason Sager.

“We worked closely with Jamis to select riders that not only represent the spirit of the Jamis brand, but also target specific areas of the racing market. They’re fast and they fit the team’s family dynamic…everyone brings something special when it comes time to cook dinner at the team house”, says Sager.

When speaking about the continued support the team receives Sager says, “We’ve grown in all aspects this year. Geax has returned with increased support and ever impressive tire designs, FSA will take care of all of our contact points and now we’re joined by Stans No Tubes rims and tubeless products. Chris King, WTB, Hayes, SRAM, Rock Shox are back as well…add to all that Jamis’ newly designed Dakar XCR, XCT and amazing Sixfifty B suspension platforms as well as the super light and lightning fast Dakota dXC and d29 hardtails and it’s obvious we have amazing machines this year.”

Unique to the mountain bike race scene, Team Jamis will be producing film projects at select events beginning with Trans Andes this week. Notable film maker Brian Vernor will accompany the team from door-to-door as they open their season in Patagonia. “These video projects will be travel pieces, getting inside the head of the athlete and showing the public how these guys see the world from their bike”, said Vernor of the concept, “Its about people and the stories that the bike creates. What you find in Patagonia you’ll also find in Wisconsin. Adventure.”

“We’ll also be producing content for our new technical partner,<>, creating Epic Ride files to give a technical glimpse of how much work it takes to compete in these stage races and inspire fans to tackle their own adventure”, said Sager of the multiple projects the team will be undertaking this year.
