Although Lael Wilcox is a relative newcomer to the endurance mountain biking game, in a short period of time she has already established herself as one of the best. She is the women’s record holder for the Tour Divide and last year she made an attempt at the Arizona Trail Race 750 (AZT 750). The AZT 750 is a daunting route from Mexico To Utah that includes a stage through the Grand Canyon (where riding bicycle is not allowed, so competitors must portage their bicycle for 24 miles!) It claims to be the “longest singletrack bike race in the world”.
This film entitled “Fast Forward” follows Lael on an attempt to break the record in a bikepacking MTB race on the Arizona Scenic Trail and explores her lifestyle and motivations.
Fast Forward is the last of three films in REI’s Every Trails Connects campaign. The other films cover the stories of ultrarunner Errol Jones and trail angel Paul Stiffler on the Appalachian Trail – which received a Vimeo Staff Pick.
