Video: Craziest Urban MTB DH Race Ever

DH Video

From the guys at Epic TV comes this video of Colombian National Champion Marcelo Gutierrez’s insane run at the Taxco Urban DH race in Mexico. Every time we see one of these urban DH videos, we always marvel at how cool it would be to have something like this here in the States! It’s amazing that spectators don’t get hit and the course transitions look pretty sketchy. The finish line could use a bit more run out.

From the official video description, Marcelo explains, “This was definitely one of the coolest urban tracks I’ve raced, rough as hell, fast as well and so many people. I have to say, that race through all those narrow streets of Taxco was super sketchy and exciting at the same time… I enjoyed it a lot, unfortunately the bike didn’t (as much). Hitting all those bottom-outs all down the trail and pinning it in all those stairs was a big challenge for the rider and the bike as well. I’m glad my round went well, clean and fast but not satisfied at all with my placing second.

Like he stated, amazingly Marcelo got second, bested by Filip Polc for the gold. Huge drops, huge crowds, huge doubles. Crazy all right. And can someone please explain why there is a religious shrine in the middle of the course?!?

Wow! Religious shrine in the middle of the course and least you can pick up some blessings… but heck at 3:50 there is a Florist in the middle of the course!

    • Mark says:

I’m guessing the florist is to provide flowers to make a wreath to throw on the dead riders as the ambulances cart them away in droves.

  • Stephen says:

    Oops 3:17 for the florist….

Regarding the shrine.. you cannot expect to have this race in the streets of Taxco Mexioc around November the 2nd (Day of the dead) and not have a staple of the festivity: an “altar for the dead” (altar de muertos). You cannot deny it’s very cool, and it’s part of a very popular cultural celebration. Even if you are not religious, altares de muertos are fun to make, a great way to remember the dearly departed, and to remeber us (and the racers) how alive we are! Hope everybody enjoyed Mexico!

Is the video sped up a little bit? I know they go fast, but the speed out of transitions seems too fast.

Not taking away from an amazing ride, but maybe it is sped up 10 – 20%?
