Have you ever been to a ballet? I’m not ashamed to say that I have. Okay, well, maybe I’m a little ashamed. But it was the Nutcracker and it was during the holidays and I really needed to have some brownie points for an epic ride the following weekend. Festive music, colorful costumes and beautiful people jumping around on their toes…what’s not to like?
Have you ever been to a cyclocross race? I have. I’ve even tried racing ‘cross once and once was enough. It’s hard. Bunny hops on road bikes, beer drinking and cowbell ringing…what’s not to like?
Ballet and cyclocross have nothing in common. Until now.
Some cross races have steps. Some have a series of wooden barriers. Some have teeters or maybe even doubles. This one has the sand pit.
This Vimeo video was uploaded by Kent Johnston and shows the action from the Het Meer Cyclocross Race held last month in Vancouver Lake Park in Vancouver, WA. The video was shot at 240 frames per second and this is the super slo-mo of the carnage.
At first, I thought, “man, some music would make this video even cooler.” But when I rewatched it, I think the absence of sound makes the video speak that much louder. Watch it and tell us what you think in the comments below!
