We’ve gotten to spend time with Fabien Barel and we’ve discovered that he is one of the great ambassadors of the sport. He is smart, athletic and friendly. An engineer by education, he is meticulous with with every detail of his life and biking yet he always seems to be the one having the most fun in any group.
Like the other top contender of the Enduro World Series, Jerome Clementz, Fabien crashed and got injured badly. But unlike Jerome who should come back to form later this season, it looks like Fabien is out for the year. Adrenalin and competitiveness got the better of him during the Chile race and he continued to ride on a broken back. But now he is fully focused on recovery to have a healthy back for his racing career and the rest of his life.
Enduro Magazine from Germany interviews Fabien Barel.
Watch these interviews as they provide great insight on the physiology and the psychology of a broken athlete. We live on the high and endorphins that riding provides us but when we are broken and activity is gone, the physical and mental difficulties are very real.
Heal well, Fabien!
